What is described is the use of a particulate material comprising, as its sole constituent or as one of multiple constituents, a particulate synthetic amorphous silicon dioxide having a particle size distribution with a median in the range from 0.1 to 0.4 μm, determined by means of laser scattering, as additive for a molding material mixture at least comprising: a refractory mold base material having an AFS grain fineness number in the range from 30 to 100, particulate amorphous silicon dioxide having a particle size distribution with a median in the range from 0.7 to 1.5 μm, determined by means of laser scattering, and water glass, for increasing the moisture resistance of a molding producible by hot curing of the molding material mixture. Described is a method of preparing a particulate refractory composition for use in the manufacture of foundry moulds and cores from spent foundry moulds or cores formed of refractory material and a binder containing water glass, the method comprising the following steps: providing broken material from spent foundry moulds or cores or preparing broken material from spent foundry moulds or cores, wherein the broken material comprises particles and/or aggregates of particles of refractory material having hardened water glass binder on their surface, mixing the broken material with particulate amorphous oxide comprising silicon dioxide in an amount of 85% by weight or more, based on the total amount of the particulate amorphous oxide, to give a mixture and subjecting the mixture to a heat treatment at a temperature of 400&#xb0; C. or higher. What are described is a process for producing casting molds, cores and mold base materials regenerated therefrom, a mixture for combination with a solution or dispersion comprising waterglass for production of casting molds and/or cores, a molding material mixture, a mold base material mixture, and a casting mold or a core. What is also described is the corresponding use of an amount of particulate sheet silicates having a dof less than 45 &#x3bc;m or a corresponding mixture as additive for production of a molding material mixture comprising waterglass and particulate amorphous silicon dioxide, which is cured by chemical reaction of constituents of the molding material mixture with one another, in the production of a casting mold or a core, to facilitate the breakdown and/or to increase the regeneratability of the casting mold or core.

Method for producing casting molds, cores and basic mold materials regenerated therefrom

A description is given of a method for producing a molding material mixture or for producing a molding material mixture and a molding therefrom, preferably casting molds or cores, for use in the foundry industry, where the molding material mixture comprises a mold base material and a solution or dispersion comprising lithium-containing waterglass, comprising the following steps: (1) producing or providing a kit at least comprising as separate components: (K1) an aqueous solution or dispersion comprising waterglass and (K2a) a first waterglass-free solution or dispersion comprising lithium ions in solution in water, and also preferably (K2b) a second waterglass-free solution or dispersion, preferably comprising lithium ions in solution in water with a lower concentration than in component (K2a), and thereafter (2) producing a mixture of the mold base material with a fraction of component (K1) and with a fraction of component (K2a), and also optionally with a fraction of component (K2b). Method for producing a moulding material mixture and a moulded body thereof in the casting industry and kit for use in this method

A method is described here for the layerwise construction of models, wherein, in a building region, a particulate material is applied layerwise and selectively cured. These steps are repeated until a desired model is obtained. The material comprises in this case a particulate building material and a spray-dried alkali metal silicate solution. Selective activation of the curing proceeds using a water-comprising solution.
