An end cap and socket system for use with a lamp bulb may include an end cap and a socket body. The end cap may include a first cylindrical portion with a first diameter, and a second cylindrical portion with a second diameter smaller than the first cylindrical portion. The socket may a key portion projecting from a front face of the socket. A adaptor for use with a socket may include a key portion. Alternatively, the end can may include a key disk with a key groove cut into the key disk, and the socket may include a key piece with a key rib structured to couple with the key groove. An adaptor for use with an end cap may include an adaptor body portion and a whole, wherein a contact pin can be inserted through the hole. These keying features are intended to prevent improper coupling between mismatched lamps and sockets or insure that the lamp, when mated to the socket, may be rotated in only one direction.

End cap, socket, and adaptors for use with a lamp

An end cap may include an end cap body that is tubular in shape, an end cap face provided at a first end of the end cap body, a plurality of end cap terminals provided on the end cap face, and a clip notch provided on an exterior side of the end cap body. The second end of the end cap body may be open and structured to receive the lamp therein. A socket may include a socket body that is generally tubular in shape, a socket face provided at a first end of the socket body, a receiving wall extending from an outer periphery of the socket face and extending in a direction away from the socket body, a plurality of socket terminals provided on the socket, and a resilient clip provided on an inner side of the receiving wall.

Fluorescent lamp with optimized UVA/UVB transmission

A compact germicidal lamp having a plurality of adjacent parallel glass cylinders capable of transmitting different wavelengths of ultraviolet radiation connected by a perpendicular glass tube. A first glass cylinder made of a doped quartz material and capable of transmitting ultraviolet radiation in the wavelength range of approximately 254 nanometers is positioned adjacent a second glass cylinder made of a quartz material capable of transmitting ultraviolet radiation in the wavelength range of approximately 185 nanometers. The first and second glass cylinders are connected by a perpendicular glass tube. The compact germicidal lamp, when used in a germicidal system, provides effective germicidal action in a small space. The germicidal lamp of the present invention is more easily manufactured than prior germicidal lamps and can be made having a high power.

Compact germicidal lamp having multiple wavelengths

A bent fluorescent lamp for backlighting a display providing uniform illumination. A fluorescent lamp is made from a tubular glass envelope having right angles formed therein with shaped corners. The right angles provide improved illumination of a plane surface for backlighting a liquid crystal display. The right angles and shaped corners eliminate dark regions in the illuminated surface. A right-angled bend is also formed at the ends of the fluorescent lamp. An electrode is positioned sufficiently far from a central portion of the lamp so that any dark spaces in the gas discharge of the fluorescent lamp, such as the Faraday dark space associated with a cathode of a lamp are not formed within the central portion.

Serpentine fluorescent lamp with shaped corners providing uniform backlight illumination for displays

A bent fluorescent lamp for backlighting a display providing uniform illumination. A fluorescent lamp is made from a tubular glass envelope having right angles formed therein. The right angles provide improved illumination of a plane surface for backlighting a liquid crystal display. The right angles eliminate dark regions in the illuminated surface. A right-angled bend is also formed at the ends of the fluorescent lamp. An electrode is positioned sufficiently far from a central portion of the lamp so that any dark spaces in the gas discharge of the fluorescent lamp, such as the Faraday dark space associated with a cathode of a lamp are not formed within the central portion. As a result, the central portion of the fluorescent lamp has a uniform brightness or intensity providing improved illumination for backlighting a liquid crystal display. The resulting more uniform illumination with less dark regions results in a more legible display and more accurate information being displayed. A method of forming a right-angled bend in a glass tube is also disclosed.

Fluorescent lamp providing uniform backlight illumination for displays

A germicidal lamp having a non-uniform contour increasing turbulence. An ultraviolet fluorescent lamp used in a purification system having a helical groove increasing turbulence of the fluid flow. The non-uniform contour may be placed directly on the tubular envelope forming the lamp or may be formed on a separate envelope enclosing a conventional cylindrical tubular germicidal lamp. The germicidal lamp having a non-uniform contour when placed in a fluid flow, such as water or air, creates turbulence, which improves the efficiency of the germicidal action. Smaller, more efficient purification systems requiring less exposure time are obtained.

Germicidal lamp and purification system having turbulent flow

An ultraviolet lamp used for creating ozone. An ultraviolet lamp is enclosed by a container having an inlet at one end and an outlet at the other end. An air flow containing molecular oxygen is created between the container and the ultraviolet lamp. A portion of the wavelength of the ultraviolet lamp is used for generating ozone. Another portion of the wavelength of the ultraviolet lamp is used to kill microorganisms or disinfect a fluid. The ozone generated may be released in the fluid, further purifying and deodorizing the fluid. The present invention combines the germicidal properties of a ultraviolet lamp with the deodorizing properties of ozone in a single device which may be used to purify water or other fluid.

A waste water purification system with complementary interlocking germicidal lamp and socket construction to prevent unintentional disconnection of the lamps. This is attained by providing the germicidal lamps with locking contact pins arranged to be latched and locked to its complementary socket by providing the socket with keyhole slots for receiving the contact pins and associated spring biased displaceable contacts to maintain electric contact between the lamp and its socket in the assembled position. In one form of the invention, the contact pins of the lamps are longitudinally offset and spaced apart to prohibit arcing between the contact pins of the respective lamp electrodes. Other embodiments of the disclosure effect the interlocking of the lamp to its socket by complementary latching members formed on the end of the lamp and its corresponding socket.

Waste water purification system with complementary interlocking

An ultraviolet purification system in which ultraviolet radiation is generated by an ultraviolet lamp wherein the amount of ultraviolet radiation is varied in accordance with fluid flow. The intensity of the ultraviolet lamp is controlled by a circuit which is responsive to fluid flow for selectivity energizing the lamp to provide variable UV intensity output depending upon fluid flow. The circuit arrangement is such that the ultraviolet lamp is always started with a high current ballast. The selection of ultraviolet lamp intensity outputs according to fluid flow maximizes the useful life of the ultraviolet lamp and renders the system more efficient by reducing the amount of heat transmitted to the fluid being acted upon during periods of low flow or non-use.

Ultraviolet water purification system with variable intensity control

A tubular gaseous discharge lamp such as an ultraviolet or fluorescent lamp is provided which includes a hollow cylinder which is connected to a pair of end caps on each of which there is mounted an electrode. The first electrode is connected to an insulated or Teflon coated wire which is disposed along the outside surface of the cylinder and passes through the end cap which supports the second electrode. The second electrode is connected to a second insulated or Teflon coated wire which projects from the second end cap. The wires facilitate connection of the ultraviolet lamp to a source of electrical power which is located at one end of the lamp. In an alternative embodiment of the invention two or more ultraviolet lamps are inserted into a hollow quartz tube, thereby providing an ultraviolet light source of extended length, or two or more fluorescent lamps may be used in single end application.
