A printing device includes an applicator with which a test fluid is applied onto a recording medium to be printed to, as well as an absorption measurement system with which absorption data are acquired with regard to the absorption rate of the test fluid. The printing device also includes a fuser to fix a print image printed by the printing device. The fuser is adjusted depending on the acquired absorption data so that an optimal and/or desired fixing of print images on the respectively used type of recording medium is produced.

In a method for fixing a print image on a recording medium, data is determined for controlling one or more radiation sources to fix the print image. The data can be determined based on a deformation model of the recording medium such that a deformation of the recording medium is reduced or minimized.

In a method to determine a negative effect on a surface of an image carrier of a print group, a reflection spectrum is determined of a region of the surface of the image carrier, the reflection spectrum indicating an intensity of light for different wavelengths. The light is reflected from the region of the surface of the image carrier. A reference spectrum is determined for the region of the surface of the image carrier. The reflection spectrum is then compared with the reference spectrum. Depending on the comparison, the determination is made whether a negative effect is present at the region of the surface of the image carrier.

A printing arrangement and a printing method for two-sided printing on a recording medium are disclosed, in which conditioning by steam and/or liquid droplets takes place after printing on the first side of the recording medium. Because of the conditioning, damage is avoided to the print image of the first side during subsequent printing on the second side, without the recording medium being impaired by the conditioning.

In a method to determine particle mass concentration in a dispersion having particles and fluid, the dispersion in a measurement cell is exposed to an alternating field of variable frequency to set the particles into oscillation to generate sound pressure waves. Amplitudes of the sound pressure waves are measured depending on the frequency so that a maximum amplitude of the sound pressure waves is established and a frequency associated with the amplitude is determined as a resonance frequency of the sound pressure wave. The mass concentration of the particles in the dispersion is established from the resonance frequency.

In a device or method to develop charge images generated on a charge image carrier, a rotating applicator moves developer fluid having charged toner particles charged to a predetermined charge and carrier fluid past the charge image carrier. The developer fluid is moved into a developer gap between the applicator and a counter-electrode where it is exposed to an electrical field between the counter-electrode and the applicator. The toner particles of the predetermined charge are moved in a direction of the applicator depending on their charge, uncharged toner particles remaining unaffected and toner particles of opposite charge being repelled. Via a separation electrode protruding into the developer gap, the developer fluid in the developer gap is divided at an exit of the developer gap into a first partial flow adjacent to the application electrode and into a second partial flow adjacent to the counter-electrode where it is discharged.
