In a cylinder-selective injection system for an internal combustion engine, there are cylinder-selective injection suppressions. Subsequent to the suppressions, restoring added quantities specific to an individual cylinder are generated, whose initial value is dependent upon the number of suppressed injections for the cylinder in question, and whose notching-down to zero is dependent upon the number of injections of the cylinder that have taken place after completion of the suppression.

In order to determine the fuel quantity to be fed into an internal combustion engine during each stroke of the engine, the air mass sucked into each cylinder for combustion during each intake stroke is determined based on an intake-pipe pressure. A current air mass is determined using a measured value for the intake-pipe pressure. Subsequently, during a period in which there is no change in an air intake cross-section for each cylinder, the air mass is determined using a projected intake-pipe pressure, and the fuel quantity to be fed to each cylinder during the current and subsequent intake strokes is determined based on the air mass determinations and a wall film model.

Process for determining fuel quantity

A method for controlling a spark-ignition engine without a throttle flap is carried out with variable inlet valve opening durations. The method includes the steps of: detecting a speed signal having a value dependent upon the engine speed; detecting an accelerator pedal signal having a value dependent upon the accelerator pedal position; determining the intake valve opening durations as well as the fuel quantity in dependence upon the particular values of the engine speed signal and the accelerator pedal signal; and, determining the ignition angle in the dependence upon the particular values of the engine speed and fuel quantities. The method affords the advantage that for all driving conditions and even for sudden changes of the accelerator pedal signal, the masses of air and fuel are optimally adapted to each other in order to obtain high driving comfort without misfirings and with low toxic gas exhaust.

An evaluation device for producing an interference free output signal from a measuring signal of a lambda probe arranged in an exhaust gas outlet of an internal combustion engine includes the following function units: an integrator for integrating the measuring signal from the probe for an adjustable time interval; a computer for computing from predetermined operational variables of the engine periods of pressure pulsations of the exhaust gas; and a computerized timer cooperating with the computer to define a time interval for the integrating operation corresponding to an integer multiple of a period of special pulsations computed by the computer.
