A device for allowing fee paying subscribers access to television or radio programs includes a keyboard unit for requesting messages concerning the programs. Information describing the program fees and account status is contained in a subscriber held security processor such as a smart card. As a function of the content of the requests a mechanism converts the information contained in the security processor into intelligible messages as a function of complementary information transmitted regularly within television and/or radio signals.

A process for scrambling and unscrambling the image part of a sampled MAC ne video signal excluding the synchronization signal begins by dividing at two dividing points the MAC luminance signal and the chrominance signal to form two pairs of segments that are adjacent in each pair. For both transmission and reception each one of two dividing points between the two segments is synchronously defined in a pseudo-random manner to form a pair slightly overlapping in the neighborhood of the pertinent dividing point. The segments are processed in each pair as a whole in order to scramble prior to transmission and again to unscramble upon reception so as to restore the initial video signal.

Method and device for secure transmission and of television pictures

A process for scrambling and unscrambling video signals during transmission begins with a sampled line of video signals. The line is divided into adjacent segments, each of which has at least two samples. The dividing point between the two segments is defined in a pseudo-random manner, synchronously in the transmission and the reception. One of the segments is transmitted in a reversed manner. Upon reception, it is returned into its original direction.

An arrangement for the electrical control of the keyboard of a video or audio tape recorder includes electromechanical levers acting on the usual rod system associated with the keyboard in substitution of the conventional keys. The levers are essentially bellcranks and are associated with tumblers and electromagnets.

A television video signal is used to record a television picture onto a photographic film. The television video signal is sampled, then digitized. Luminance data and chrominance data, if any, for each sample are stored in a memory. Then, such data is read out and selectively applied to an electro-optic device, such as one, for instance, made of electro-luminescent diodes. The diodes generate either monochrome or trichrome luminous points which are recorded on film by means of a photographic camera. Means are provided for eliminating frame interlacing and for using substantially a standard camera. The system may be used with any television standard.

An adjustable anamorphic transformer comprises a source of video signals, which are primarily -- but not exclusively -- images of a human brain. The video signals have their horizontal and vertical synchronizing signals separated out and then independently processed. The video signals themselves are amplified with an automatic gain control. An electronic means jointly responsive to the separately processed horizontal and vertical signals controls the gain of the video amplifier. Other electronic means separately responsive to the horizontal and vertical signals independently control, in X and Y axes, the expansion of images produced responsive to the video signals.
