A slipring with at least one slip ring module having at least one sliding track, and at least one wear indication track. A wear indication circuit is connected to the at least one wear indication track for monitoring electrical properties of the wear indication track and signaling an abnormal slipring condition. A wear indication track may be exposed to higher load, higher rotation speed, higher brush pressure force, or other lifetime-reducing influence as compared to a normal sliding track.

Slip ring module

A brush holder for slipring brushes comprises a brush mount held by a lever at a base. The lever is connected by a base pivot to the base and is pivotable in a plane orthogonal to a brush mount pivot axis and/or to a slipring rotation axis. A spring is provided between the base and the lever. The brush mount is connected to the lever by a brush mount pivot pivotable in said plane. The brush mount holds a first brush and a second brush wherein the brush mount pivot is between the first brush and the second brush.

Holder for slip ring brushes

A slip ring unit comprises a brush block with multiple brushes rotatable against a module with multiple sliding tracks. A position encoder is connected to the brush block and the module, for detecting the relative position between the brush block and the module. An evaluation unit receives signals from the position encoder and generates a position-dependent signal indicating wear. The evaluation unit has multiple wear counters assigned to multiple positions and/or sections of the slip ring. If a movement is detected within a certain section, the related wear counter is incremented to allow to monitor wear at slip rings that are not continuously rotating.

Slip ring with selective wear indication

While galvanically applying the copper layer on the substrate, the used galvanic bath explicitly does not include at least one of 3-carboxy-1-(phenylmethyl)pyridinium chloride sodium salt, cationic polymers with urea groups, 1-(3-sulfopropyl)pyridinium betaine, 1-(2-hydroxy-3-sulfopropyl)-pyridinium betaine, propargyl(3-sulfopropyl)ether sodium salt, sodium saccharin, sodium allylsulfonate, N,N-dimethyl-N-(3-cocoamidopropyl)-N-(2-hydroxy-3-sulfopropyl)ammonium betaine, polyamines, 1H-imidazole-polymer with (chloromethyl)oxiran, 3-carboxy-1-(phenylmethyl)pyridinium chloride sodium salt, 1-benzyl-3-sodium carboxy-pyridinium chloride, arsenic trioxide, potassium antimony tartrate, potassium tellurate, alkali arsenite, potassium tellerite, potassium seleno cyanate, alkali antimonyl tartrate, sodium selenite, thallium sulfate, and carbon disulfide, to create the outer surface of the contact that is at least an order of magnitude rougher than a surface of a conventionally-fabricated contact.

Slipring with reduced contact noise

A method for making contact wires for sliprings comprising the steps of: coating and/or plating a wire with a first metal of the group of nickel, chrome or a combination thereof; coating and/or plating the wire with a second metal of the group of gold, silver, or a combination thereof; delivering laser radiation and generating an interference pattern of the laser radiation to the surface of the wire; heating the surface selectively as defined by the interference pattern, modifying of the crystal structure and/or providing protrusions and/or recesses due to melting and/or evaporation of the surface material.

Method for making contact wires for sliprings

A slipring assembly comprises a slipring module having at least one slipring track, which is in electrical contact with at least one slipring brush. The slipring module comprises an isolating body holding the at least one slipring track. Furthermore a cooling element is embedded into or attached to the slipring module to remove heat from the slipring module and to increase the temperature of the at least one slipring track. This allows decreasing the temperature of the slipring module to increase the maximum transferable power and lifetime.

Slipring with active cooling

A slipring brush includes a body of a metal wire or metal band having a contact area for contacting a slipring module. The contact area is selectively coated by a contact material like gold or silver or an alloy thereof. The body preferably includes Copper, Nickel, Iron, or an alloy thereof. Coating may be done by electroplating, physical vapor deposition (PVD) or chemical vapor deposition (CVD).

Low cost gold wire brushes

The lifetime of sliding contact surface(s) of a precious metal or a precious metal alloy can be enhanced by embedding at least one nano-particle in the layer forming the sliding contact surface(s).

Slip ring assembly and components thereof

A slip ring arrangement comprises a brush with a first contact material on the surface, which rests on a slideway with a second contact material on the surface. The slideway further comprises a layer with a third contact material beneath the second contact material. In this case, the abrasion of the brush is lower than that of the second contact material in the case of a sliding contact between the brush and the second contact material. In the case of a sliding contact between the brush and third contact material, the abrasion of the brush is higher than that of third contact material. As a result, the second contact material of the slideway is degraded first, which corresponds to the normal service life of a slideway. Subsequently, the brush is worn off relative to the third contact material, by means of which a further considerable extension in the service life is achieved.

Slip ring brush having a galvanic multi-layer system

A slipring comprises a slipring module rotating about a rotation axis, having a plurality of sliding tracks and at least one multi wire brush sliding thereon. The sliding tracks have a circular contact surface with its center located at the rotation axis and a convex shaped cross-section. Due to this convex shaped sliding track, the individual brush wires of the multi wire brush distribute over the sliding track surface and offer a higher number of contact points. This results in a higher current capacity, lower contact resistance and lower contact noise.

High current slipring for multi fiber brushes

A slip ring has a slip ring track with a contact area, the contact area containing a plurality of pores or cavities. A lubricant is held within these pores and cavities and is enclosed by a top coating. When a slip ring brush is sliding over the slip ring track, it rubs off particles of the top coating, therefore opening some of the pores or cavities which release parts of the lubricant contained therein. This lubricant reduces surface friction of the slip ring brush at the slip ring track and therefore further wear, which results in an extended lifetime.

Self-lubricating slipring

A slip ring assembly for the electrical connection of two rotating parts has at least a sliding track with V-grooves. At least two brushes of electrically conductive material are contacting the sliding track within the V-groove. The brushes are connected electrically with each other and mounted at different levels resulting in a different distance to the rotation axis of the sliding track. This results in an improved resistance against shock and vibrations.

Oscillation proof brushblock for sliprings

A slip ring device for the electrical connection of two mutually rotatable parts includes one or more slideways each with at least one V-groove. At least two wire brushes are provided which run in (are configured to extend into) the V-grooves. The wire brushes are electrically connected to each other and are mounted on at least two different brush blocks which are mechanically decoupled from one another. Increased insensitivity to vibrations and mechanical impacts can be achieved in this way.

Vibration-resistant slip ring device

A slip ring brush includes a holding device made of two U-shaped holding plates inserted into each other. A holding plate includes clamping fingers which, disposed opposite of one another in pairs, form cavities that accommodate brush wires. The brush wires are tightly clamped inside these cavities by clamping fingers and are secured by additional clamping sleeves.
