A liquid mixing collector includes first and second sump zones, a first and optionally a second liquid collection region, first and second interspersed sets of spaced apart liquid collection channels positioned in the first liquid collection region, the first and second sets of collection channels being associated with the first and second respective sump zones, wherein adjacent liquid collection channel sets are vertically displaced in parallel horizontal planes. The invention also relates to the process of using the collector within a heat or mass transfer column.

Liquid mixing collector and a method for its use

The liquid distributor includes a channel for the reception of a liquid which is divided by a dividing wall into a first chamber and a second chamber. An inlet element for a liquid opens into the first chamber to fill the first chamber with the liquid. Openings are provided in the dividing wall so that the liquid can be distributed from the first chamber via the openings into the second chamber in the form of jets to create turbulent vortices.

Liquid distributor

The device () serves for the generation of a discrete liquid phase in a continuous liquid phase with a first or a second liquid. The two liquids coexist as separate phases, have different densities and permit a desired exchange of material. Provision is made to arrange the device in a container () which contains the second liquid forming the continuous phase. The device includes a distribution member (), in particular a cylindrical tube, and a collection passage () for the first liquid in a horizontal longitudinal extent. The collection passage has an outlet side (), a collection side () and at least one side wall () connecting the outlet side and the collection side. The side wall establishes a connection between the outlet side and a horizontal drip edge (). This side wall has a shape and an inclination which enables the formation of a liquid film of the discrete liquid phase. For enhancing the stability of the Film, the side wall () can have a good wettability for the first liquid. The drip edge or the side wall preferably have a profiling, in particular a toothed arrangement () for the generation of the discrete phase in the form of drops which are preferably of an equal size due to a uniform toothed arrangement.

The reflux divider for a separation column has portions for the transfer of material arranged in parallel which are mutually bounded by a vertical dividing wall and which include members for the controlled dividing of a liquid to be treated. A reflux divider feeds part flows to the respective portions employing connection lines that are feed from a common container. A restrictor valve is used in one connection line to control the flow based on signals from a pair of flow meters.

The distributor serves for a pairwise delivery of two liquids to a plurality of infeed sites in a reactor or in a column with a density of at least 50 sites per m. The distributor has a pair of main passages that supply pairs of secondary passages with different liquid. Each pair of secondary passages is formed by a pair of upstanding side parts and an upstanding partition wall. Each side part has a base extending from a lower edge to the partition wall to define a secondary passage therewith for receiving liquid from a respective one of the main passages, and each base has a plurality of outlet apertures for the outflow of liquid from the respective secondary passage.

The fluid inlet device for a column includes an inflow stub and a deflection unit. The deflection unit includes an input zone with a plurality of inlet passages of constant cross-sections that merge into diffuser-like passages formed by curved guide lamellae. The curved guide lamellae diffuse the flow of fluid from the lateral passages laterally and circumferentially of the column to separate a high density phase, such as liquid drops, from a low density phase, such as a gas, under centrifugal force. The curved lamellae also direct the flow of fluid from the central passages downwardly of the column.

At the location ahead of the outlet opening ( ), where the liquid jet ( ) is incident onto the shaped material plate ( ), a first and a second piece of surface ( and respectively) of the material plate form a mouth region ( ) in which the first piece of surface ( ) deflects the liquid ( ) transversely with respect to the vertical, whereas the second piece of surface ( ) is provided as a catcher for squirts. The first piece of surface merges into a channel ( ) in which the liquid is guided downwards. In this the wall of the second piece of surface divides the channel off from the mouth region. In modified form the guide member can also be assembled from a plurality of shaped material plates.

The guide member for a liquid jet to be deflected allows a liquid after flowing out of a container to be deflected onto a target which is located below the container. The deflecting takes place by means of a shaped material plate which is arranged ahead of an outlet opening of the container and which reshapes and further conducts the jet in such a manner that the liquid is conveyed to the target at a lower end of the shaped material plate. At the location ahead of the outlet opening, where the liquid jet is incident onto the shaped material plate, a first and a second piece of surface of the material plate form a mouth region in which the first piece of surface deflects the liquid transversely with respect to the vertical, whereas the second piece of surface is provided as a catcher for squirts.
