An exhaust gas purification system for a motor vehicle having a reducing agent storage tank, and an associated operating method. In particular, an exhaust gas purification system for a motor vehicle, for which predetermined maintenance intervals is provided. The system includes a reducing agent storage tank for storing a reducing agent intended for exhaust gas purification. A method for operating a motor vehicle having an exhaust gas purification system and a reducing agent storage tank for storing a reducing agent intended for the exhaust gas purification, which comprises predetermined maintenance work after predetermined maintenance intervals is also provided.

An exhaust-gas purification unit for purifying the exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine which is preferably operated in lean-burn mode, in particular a diesel engine used in motor vehicles, has a particulate filter and a SCR catalytic converter arranged in the exhaust pipe in succession in the direction of flow, and a reducing-agent supply. Ammonia can be added to the exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine on the entry side of the SCR catalytic converter by the reducing-agent supply. The exhaust-gas purification unit includes a hydrogen-generating unit for enriching the exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine with the hydrogen which it generates.

Exhaust gas purification system

The invention proposes an exhaust-gas purification unit for purifying the exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine which is preferably operated in lean-burn mode, in particular a diesel engine used in motor vehicles, in which a particulate filter and a SCR catalytic converter are arranged in the exhaust pipe in succession in the direction of flow, and having a reducing-agent supply, it being possible for ammonia to be added to the exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine on the entry side of the SCR catalytic converter by the reducing-agent supply. According to the invention, the exhaust-gas purification unit includes a hydrogen-generating unit for enriching the exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine with the hydrogen which it generates. Use in motor vehicles.

Exhaust gas purification unit with reducing agent supply

An exhaust gas purification unit for purifying the exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine which is preferably operated in lean burn mode, in particular a diesel engine used in motor vehicles, has a particulate filter and a SCR catalytic converter arranged in the exhaust pipe in succession in the direction of flow, and a reducing agent supply. Ammonia can be added to the exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine on the entry side of the SCR catalytic converter by the reducing agent supply. A hydrogen-generating unit enriches the exhaust gas from the internal combustion engine with generated hydrogen.

An exhaust-gas cleaning system includes a nitrogen oxide reduction catalytic converter for reducing nitrogen oxides which are contained in the exhaust gas. A reducing agent is introduced into the exhaust-gas flow and is in the form of a vapor. A reducing-agent metering device for the metered addition of the reducing agent or a reducing-agent precursor to the exhaust-gas flow includes a vaporizer, which is arranged in the exhaust system upstream of the nitrogen oxide reduction catalytic converter. As a heat source, the vaporizer has (1) a heatable deflector surface, onto which the reducing agent, which is supplied by a feed unit, is directed under pressure; or (2) a microwave generator.

An Exhaust-gas purification system for an internal combustion engine, which, as seen in the direction of flow of the exhaust gas, has a particle filter, apparatus for providing a reducing agent in the exhaust-gas flow, a catalytic converter for reducing nitrogen oxide which is present in the exhaust gas, and a downstream oxidation catalytic converter. An upstream oxidation catalytic converter is arranged upstream of the particle filter.

Exhaust-gas purification system for an internal combustion engine

The present invention concerns a method and a system for feeding a reducing agent into a catalyst device. A first reservoir is provided and has a solid reducing agent, a second reservoir is provided and has a solvent for the solid reducing agent, and a reducing agent solutions is produced from the solid reducing agent and the solvent. The reducing agent solution is intermittently stored in a third reservoir, and the reducing agent solution is fed from the third reservoir into the catalyst device.

Method and system for feeding a reducing agent into a catalyst device

A process for monitoring the operation of a system for the aftertreatment of exhaust gas utilizes respective temperature sensors assigned to catalysts in the exhaust gas system. In addition, a sensor for detecting the NOx content in the exhaust gas is assigned to a reduction catalyst. The detected values, or functions thereof, are in each case compared with the definable reference values and when these definable limit values are exceeded, a corresponding defect information is triggered.

Process for monitoring operation of an exhaust gas treatment system

A process and apparatus for reducing the nitrogen oxide content in oxygen-containing emissions is provided, particularly for internal-combustion engines, particularly of diesel engines and directly injecting Otto engines for motor vehicles. The nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gas are reduced by a suitable reducing agent, such as hydrogen or hydrocarbons, on a DENOX catalyst. For achieving an improved conversion rate for the nitrogen oxides, a combination of hydrogen and hydrocarbons are used as reducing agents. In different operating ranges of the internal-combustion engine only hydrogen, only hydrocarbons, or hydrogen and hydrocarbons are added. Preferably, for this purpose, the quantity of supplied hydrogen or hydrocarbons is reduced or increased with an increasing engine load and/or catalyst temperature and/or rotational engine speed.
