A method, system, and medium are provide for dynamically allocating frequency bands transmitted by a base station to a user device to optimize signal strength at the device. A distance from the base station to the user device is determined, and if the distance is greater than a distance threshold, a lower-frequency band is allocated to the device. If the distance is less than the distance threshold, a penetration loss factor for the device is calculated. If the penetration loss factor is greater than a penetration loss threshold, a lower-frequency band is allocated to the device, and if the penetration loss factor is less than the penetration loss threshold, a higher-frequency band is allocated to the device.

Dynamic allocation of frequency bands to user devices

A wireless access node to facilitate voice over long term evolution (VoLTE) communication sessions comprises a wireless communication transceiver and a processing system. The wireless communication transceiver is configured to exchange VoLTE packets with a wireless communication device during a VoLTE communication session. The processing system is configured to monitor a number of hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) retries requested by the wireless communication device during the VoLTE communication session and compare the number of HARQ retries to a threshold value. The processing system is further configured to, if the number of HARQ retries falls below the threshold value, drop a percentage of the VoLTE packets to achieve an overall percentage of packet loss for the VoLTE communication session based on the number of HARQ retries.

Actively dropping data packets during voLTE communication sessions

A communication system provides selective access to target wireless communication devices. A naming server system receives naming system registration messages from target wireless communication devices and address requests from user devices. The naming server system determines if the current time is within the access schedule for the target wireless communication device. If the current time is within the access schedule for the target wireless communication device, then the naming server system returns the address for the target wireless communication device. If the current time is not within the access schedule for the target wireless communication device, then the naming server system will respond with a timeframe when the target wireless communication device will be available for access.

Communication system to provide selective access to a wireless communication device

Systems, methods, and software for hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) block error rate (BLER) control in wireless communications are provided herein. A wireless access system receives a media packet. The wireless access system also determines a first time difference between an allowable end-to-end delay for the media packet and a first consumed end-to-end delay for the media packet. The wireless access system also processes the first time difference to select a first HARQ BLER and transfers the media packet from the wireless access system using the first HARQ BLER.

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for precision time protocol (PTP) frequency and phase synchronization to unanchored sites over non on-path supported networks are provided. In embodiments, the method includes continuously measuring one-way delay (OWD) and delay offset from a host site to an anchored site to determine a dynamic corrective offset (DCO). One of a plurality of unanchored sites is identified. In embodiments, the DCO is applied to PTP sync or PTP follow-up messages communicated from the host site to the identified unanchored site. The clocks associated with the unanchored sites are synchronized to the host clock.

Delivering precision time protocol frequency and phase synchronization over a network without on-path support

A method, system, and medium are provided for regulating the allocation of radio-frequency (RF) channels in a carrier-aggregation network. A base station that is part of the carrier-aggregation network receives a registration request from a mobile station subscribing to services offered by a first wireless-telecommunications network within the carrier-aggregation network. The base station communicates the registration request to the first network and receives a set of policy parameters from the first network. The base station receives a service request from the mobile station. Based on the policy parameters and the service request and without communicating with the first network, the base station determines a set of RF channels available to the mobile station. The base station sends a resource assignment to the mobile station specifying the set of available RF channels.

Policy control for a carrier-aggregation network

A method is presented for provisioning a communication device. In the method, a call initiated by the communication device to initiate a first form of provisioning of the device is received. In response to the call, capabilities of the communication device are requested. In response to the request, an indication of whether the communication device supports a second form of provisioning different from the first form of provisioning is received. Based on the indication received, provisioning of the communication device using the second form of provisioning is initiated, or the communication device is provisioned using the first form of provisioning.
