A technique facilitates mitigation of shock loads. Subterranean communication systems may comprise components susceptible to various shock loads. A shock mitigation system is physically coupled with the subterranean communication system to mitigate such shock loads. The shock mitigation system comprises components selected to enable reduction of various effects of shock loads, e.g. shock loads resulting from perforating procedures, which could otherwise be detrimental to continued operation of the subterranean communication system.

System and method for shock mitigation

A sensor system includes interconnected and axially spaced apart sensor devices deployed along an outer surface of a downhole tool string. The sensor devices including a sensor disposed with a protective housing and control electronics located remote from the sensor devices and operationally connected to the sensors.

A system and methodology are provided for improving the triggering (firing) of perforating guns, such as perforating guns deployed downhole via tubing. According to an embodiment, a methodology is provided for dependably communicating with an electronic firing head. The electronic firing head receives signals via wireless telemetry, such as either electromagnetic or acoustical telemetry. The methodology prevents surface or off depth detonation of the perforating guns by utilizing a fire command protocol.

A detonator assembly for initiating an explosive comprises a power source, an initiator, and a switch coupled between the power source and initiator. The switch has a trigger input responsive to a stimulus to activate the switch, where activation of the switch causes electrical energy to be provided to the initiator. The stimulus comprises at least one of a clock-based stimulus, a pressure stimulus, a light stimulus, an acoustic stimulus, and a vibration stimulus.

Various technologies described herein involve apparatuses for actuating a downhole tool. In one implementation, the apparatus may include a pressure sensor for receiving one or more pressure pulses and an electronics module in communication with the pressure sensor. The electronics module may be configured to determine whether the pressure pulses are indicative of a command to actuate the downhole tool. The apparatus may further include a motor in communication with the electronics module. The motor may be configured to provide a rotational motion. The apparatus may further include a coupling mechanism coupled to the motor. The coupling mechanism may be configured to translate the rotational motion to a linear motion. The apparatus may further include a valve system coupled to the coupling mechanism. The valve system may be configured to actuate the downhole tool when the valve system is in an open phase.

A downhole tool that is connectable to a line to be run downhole with the tool includes a housing, a sensor and a mechanism that is located inside the housing. The mechanism is coupled to the sensor to, in response to the detection of the feature by the sensor, generate a tension signal in the line without physically contacting a downhole structure.

An apparatus for use in a subterranean well includes a downhole energy source, a first switch, a second switch, a detonator, a first controller and a second controller. The first switch has a first predetermined state to transfer energy from the energy source, and the second switch has a second predetermined state to transfer the energy from the energy source. A detonator receives the energy from the energy source when the first switch and second switches are concurrently in the first and second predetermined states. A first controller independently detects a predetermined stimulus that is transmitted from the surface of the well and causes the first switch to enter to first predetermined state based on the detection by the first controller. A second controller independently detects the predetermined stimulus transmitted from the surface of the well and causes the second switch to enter the second predetermined state based on the detection by the second controller.

Safety method and apparatus for a perforating gun

A fluid control system actuatable by a tool includes a valve and a valve operator coupled to operate the valve between an open and closed position. The valve operator is adapted to be responsive to signals generated by the tool such that a first combination is received when the tool is run in a first direction and a second combination is received when the tool is run in a second direction. The valve operator includes electronic circuitry adapted to actuate the valve open in response to the first combination and to actuate the valve closed in response to the second combination.
