An adjustable multi-band planar antenna especially applicable in mobile terminals and a radio device. The adjusting circuit () of the antenna is galvanically connected to a point (X) of the radiator, where the circuit can affect the places of at least two operating bands. The adjusting circuit comprises a multi-pole switch (), by which said radiator point can be connected to one of alternative transmission lines. For example, one of two transmission lines () is open and another shorted. A discrete capacitor (C) can be located between the separate conductor of the transmission line and an output pole of the switch as an additive-tuning element. The adjusting circuit further comprises a LC circuit () between the radiator () and the switch. Among other things, the lengths of the transmission lines, the values of the discrete components and the distance between the antenna short-circuit point (G) and the adjusting circuit connecting point (X) are then variables from the point of view of the antenna adjusting. Such values are calculated for these variables that each of the antenna operation bands separately shifts to a desired other place when the switch state is changed. The space required for the adjusting circuit is relatively small, and a relatively high efficiency is achieved for the antenna despite of the use of a switch.

Adjustable multiband antenna and methods

An antenna device for transmitting and receiving radio frequency waves, installable in a communication device includes an antenna structure switchable between antenna configuration states. Each state is distinguished by a set of radiation parameters, such as resonance frequency, input impedance, bandwidth, radiation pattern, gain, polarization, and near-field pattern. A switching device selectively switches the structure between the states. The antenna device includes a first receiver which receives a first measured operation parameter indicative of quality of transmission of radio frequency waves by the antenna structure, and a second receiver which receives a second measured operation parameter indicative of quality of reception of radio frequency waves by the structure. The antenna device includes a controller which controls the switching device, and selective switching of the antenna structure between the states, based on the first and second measured operation parameters, to improved transmission and/or reception quality.

Antenna device and method for transmitting and receiving radio waves

An antenna device for transmitting and/or receiving electromagnetic radiation, installable in and connectable to a communication device, inlcudes an antenna structure switchable between a plurality of antenna configuration states. Each antenna configuration state is distinguished by a set of radiation parameters, such as resonance frequency, input impedance, bandwidth, radiation pattern, gain, polarization, and near-field pattern. Each of the plurality of antenna configuration states is adapted for use of the antenna device in the communication device in a respective predefined physical operation environment. A switching device selectively switches the antenna structure between the plurality of antenna configuration states.

Antenna device for transmitting and/or receiving radio frequency waves and method related thereto

An antenna device for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic waves, wherein the antenna device includes a transmitter section and a receiver section. The receiver section includes a receiving antenna structure selectively switchable between a plurality of configuration states. The antenna structure may be switched by a switching device, which is controlled by a control device. The selective switching is effected based upon a first measure representing a reflection coefficient measured at the transmitter section. A method for transmitting and receiving electromagnetic waves includes receiving a measure representing a reflection coefficient and controlling a switching device to selectively switch an antenna structure between a plurality of antenna configuration states in response to the measure representing the reflection coefficient.

An antenna device for a radio communication device, preferably a portable radio communication device, comprising a first antenna element () comprising a first feeding portion () connected to a first feeding device (), a second antenna element () comprising second feeding portions () connected to a second feeding device (), wherein said first antenna element () has an unbalanced feed, and said second antenna element () has an essentially balanced feed.

Antenna device

An antenna device for transmitting and/or receiving RF waves connectable to a radio communication device and including a radiating structure with at least two switchable antenna elements. At least one switching element, arranged in a central switching unit, selectively connects and disconnects the at least two switchable antenna elements. The at least two antenna elements can be individually switched between different coupling states by the central switching unit. The central switching unit has a control port for reception of control signals enabling the central switching unit to effect a centralized switching of said at least two switchable antenna elements.

Antenna device for transmitting and/or receiving RF waves

An antenna device for transmitting and receiving RF waves in at least a first frequency band and adapted to be arranged in a radio communication device. The antenna device comprises a support structure ( ), at least one radiating antenna portion ( ) carried by the support structure, a circuit carried by the support structure for processing analogue RF signals tapped from or fed to the radiating antenna portion, and coupling means arranged for connecting the circuit to the radio communication device. A radiation shielding device ( ) of an electrically conductive material surrounds the circuit at least partially, and the shielding device ( ) is functionally integrated with the radiating antenna portion ( ) and forms an actively radiating part thereof.
