The invention proposes a methods and devices for tandem ion mobility spectrometry using at least one TIMS analyzers (TIMS=trapping ion mobility spectrometry), in particular in the field of structural biology.

Provided are systems and methods for de novo determinations of molecular structures or assemblies, including biologically relevant protein structures or assemblies, from IMS-MS data alone. The systems and methods perform a comprehensive conformational analysis of a molecule or molecular assembly, predict IMS-MS spectra for the molecule or molecular assembly, and report structures that best explain experimental spectra for the molecule or molecular assembly.

Determining molecular and molecular assembly structures from a momentum transfer cross section distribution

The present invention comprises a method for automated, high throughput molecular identification of macromolecular organic compounds. The method may provide an approximate solution to a momentum transfer cross section of an analyte in a buffer gas as measured by an ion mobility spectrometer that has low computational demand, has a high level of accuracy, and is adaptable for a variety of drift gases.
