Self-purging, low force opening, aerosol valve system with an orificed valve stem groove and gasket forming a first valve for product and propellant, or propellant, flow. A check valve element, biasing element and housing first opening form a second valve for product flow. Actuating the valve stem sequentially opens first valve and then second valve. After actuation, second valve closes before first valve, and propellant from housing second opening purges valve stem and actuator until first valve closes. No first valve closing return spring acts directly on valve stem, allowing easy opening. Gasket in stem groove and product and propellant flow fully close first valve after second valve closes. High solid and/or resin content products can be dispensed through an actuator with mechanical break-up insert.

An aerosol valve assembly, lacking a return spring and dip tube, has a valve housing and a valve body with a lower portion, an intermediate portion and a valve stem. A gasket in a stem groove seals one or more orifice openings into the valve stem except on valve actuation. The valve housing has a lower wall with a central opening for the valve body lower portion to enter to stabilize the vertically acting valve; and, a plurality of product delivery openings positioned about the central opening. A stroke-limiting surface on the valve body prevents the gasket from completely escaping the stem groove on valve actuation. When valve actuation ceases, the valve is returned to closed position by the gasket acting against the stem groove, and the product acting against the valve body bottom portion and the lower surface of the valve body intermediate portion.

Aerosol valve assembly

A preassembled aerosol actuator assembly and a method of in-line capping the assembly to an aerosol container. A shell has a top opening and a hinged actuator lever therein with a depending button-receiving socket. A discrete spray button is preassembled into the socket with the button bottom positioned a substantial distance above the socket bottom to leave a stem-capturing space below the button. The button has an upwardly extending interior passage with a wide lead-in beginning at the bottom end of the button directly adjacent the outer side wall of the button and converging upwardly to terminate in a shallow valve stem-sealing socket. The bottom of the button has no obstructions and no unintended stem-capturing openings. The button socket has a side spray slot closed at the bottom by a radiused flap. Heat-dissipating interior channels are cored from the button top down into the button.

Preassembled aerosol actuator assembly for in-line capping to an aerosol container

An aerosol powder valve having a valve housing, a valve body, a valve stem, a gasket-retaining groove about the valve stem, and at least one valve orifice through the stem wall communicating with the groove and the stem discharge passage. The valve body below the groove has a plurality of vertical splines about its periphery with minimal area top surfaces of the splines abutting the gasket in the closed valve position. Circumferential spaces extend between the splines. The valve groove has a top annular surface, an intermediate neck portion with the one or more valve orifices, and a lower annular surface extending downwardly and outwardly at a sharp angle to the horizontal from the neck portion to the outer circumference of the valve body to join the valve body outer circumference at the level of the tops of the splines. The sharply angled annular lower groove surface may be frustoconical or preferably slightly convex, and has no horizontal or concave components for powder accumulation. The gasket seals the groove lower surface in the closed valve position and wipes the groove lower surface outwardly when the valve moves from open to closed position to cause any powder on the groove lower surface to fall into the circumferential spaces between the splines. The diameter of the valve body between the splines, at the level of the tops of the splines, is the same as the diameter of the valve stem above the groove. No powder build up can occur to interfere with the gasket sealing of the valve.

Aerosol powder valve

A high volume aerosol valve with an axially acting high volume valve stem having upper, intermediate and lower portions. The intermediate portion has an annular gasket sealing groove with four large rectangular orifices having side-to-side vs. top-to-bottom dimensions in a ratio of at least approximately three to one. A stem bore extends from the top of the stem upper portion down through and past the stem intermediate portion and substantially down into the stem lower portion. Narrow web members occupy said stem bore from a position substantially up into said stem upper portion extending down through said stem intermediate portion and substantially down into said stem lower portion to the bottom of the bore. Radially outer edges of the narrow web members, in the stem intermediate portion, define therebetween the four large rectangular orifices. The large rectangular orifices, lying along a circle passing through the radially outer edges of the narrow web member, occupying at least seventy, and preferably at least seventy-five, per cent of the circumference of the circle. The narrow web members in horizontal cross section preferably take up less than fifty per cent of the available cross-sectional area internal to the stem.

High volume aerosol valve

An aerosol powder valve has a valve housing, a valve body with an upstanding valve stem, radial stem orifices, and an annular tight-fitting gasket with a central opening forming the sole seal for the stem orifices. The valve stem is straight-sided above and below the stem orifices and is characterized by the absence of a gasket-receiving groove encircling the stem. The valve body has a plurality of narrow splines spaced around its periphery, the top spline surfaces being of minimal area in relation to the area of the circumferential spaces between the tops of the splines. The spline top surfaces abut the gasket underside when the valve is closed, and the minimal top spline areas prevent powder build-up to adversely affect full sealing of the valve. Other lateral surfaces on the valve body near the gasket are eliminated to likewise avoid powder build-up thereon. The spline sides may diverge outwardly and downwardly from the spline top surfaces. The gasket sealing surface surrounding the valve stem has a lubricant, i.e., silicone, baked thereon. The stem orifices are positioned vertically over circumferential spaces between splines.

An improved mechanical break-up actuator, molded in one piece, for spray dispensing from a pressurized aerosol dispenser has a swirl chamber with a central protruding mound and an off-center discharge orifice.
