An LED signal module includes a circuit board with a plurality of LEDs, a corresponding plurality of lenses and an overmolded front element with a plurality of openings for receiving one of the plurality of lenses therethrough, and an exterior surface having a textured pattern thereon, with the front element configured to absorb the light from external sources.

An edge-lit light engine module for signs and a sign are provided. The light engine module has housing and a light engine that fits within the housing. The housing has a base member and at least one side member that overlaps a tab formed along an edge of a sign face. The housing is configured to align the light engine with the partial edge of the sign so that light from the light engine enters and is reflected within the material that forms the sign face so that the sign face becomes illuminated. The housing properly aligns the light engine, and also serves as a heat sink to draw heat away from the light engine and transfer the heat outside the housing.

An automated de-icing system for a low power lighting device having a light emitting face. The system includes one or more detectors for detecting conditions under which ice, frost or snow are likely to occur on the light emitting face. The system further includes a heat transfer system for transferring heat to the light emitting face and a controller for receiving data from the detector(s) and determining a likelihood of ice, frost or snow forming on the light emitting face. The controller engages the heat transfer system if the likelihood of ice, frost or snow forming on the light emitting face exceeds a threshold.
