An autonomous vehicle navigates an environment in which occlusions block the vehicle's ability to detect moving objects. The vehicle handles this by receiving sensor data corresponding to the environment, identifying one or more particles of a plurality of initialized particles that have a non-zero probability of being associated with a potential occluded actor in the occluded region, and generating a trajectory of the autonomous vehicle for traversing the environment based on spatiotemporal reasoning about the occluded region and taking into account the one or more particles. Each particle may be associated with a potential actor.

Methods and systems for handling occlusions in operation of autonomous vehicle

This involves applying at least one measure for optimizing the motion candidates. A method in a transportation vehicle for an automatic drive which includes detecting additional transportation vehicles in the surroundings of the transportation vehicle by at least one sensor system, detecting and identifying lanes by the at least one sensor system, assigning the detected additional transportation vehicles to the detected lanes by a controller, and identifying and evaluating an intention to pass of another transportation vehicle by a pass assistance device. If an intention to pass has been identified, the method also includes calculating a total use of a possible lane change by a predictive device and adapting a drive behavior of the transportation vehicle by the controller, wherein the possible lane change is carried out if the calculated total use reaches or exceeds a specified total use threshold, and the possible lane change is not carried out if the calculated total use does not exceed the specified total use threshold.

Method and device in a motor vehicle for an automatic drive

A method for operating a control device for the autonomous guidance of a motor vehicle, wherein a nominal speed is predetermined as a driving speed to be set by the control device and another vehicle driving in front more slowly than the nominal speed is detected by a detection device of the control device, wherein a speed difference of a driving speed of the other vehicle with respect to the nominal speed is greater than zero but smaller than a predetermined maximum value. In this case, an accumulator value is set to a starting value and a current speed value of the speed difference is detected and depending on the speed value, an advantage value is formed and the advantage value is added to the accumulator value. If the accumulator value meets a predetermined overtaking criterion, an overtaking signal is generated for allowing an overtaking maneuver.
