It is disclosed a method of monitoring, a Multi-Protocol Label Switching network, a tandem connection of a Label Switched Path. The tandem connection to be monitored has an input node and an output node. The method comprises the following steps: receiving a first Operation Administration Management packet at the input node; and generating a second OAM packet at the input node. According to the invention, the following steps are further performed: a tandem connection header is inserted into the first OAM packet; both the first OAM packet with the tandem connection header and the second OAM packet are sent towards the output node; and the second OAM packet is identified according to the presence or absence of said tandem connection header.

In order to provide a redundancy mechanism in a packet switched provider network, which allows faster recovery from a failure, it is proposed that in case of a failure, a redundancy mechanism is initiated to reroute packet transmission through the provider network via an alternate path and an address withdrawal message is sent to network nodes along the failed path using data plane protocol. A network node receiving the address withdrawal message will flush MAC addresses it had learned before.

Method for client data transmission through a packet switched provider network

Proposed is a method of enabling a packet loss measurement in a network. Via a group of user ports data packets containing a same source address and a same destination address are received. A link aggregation of the group of user ports is performed. At a network port, received data packets are transmitted to a far end network edge node. A number of transmitted data packets is determined, and also for each of the user ports a number of data packets lost internally is determined. At the network port, a corrected number of transmitted data packets is indicated to the far end network edge node as the sum of the determined number of transmitted data packets the overall number of data packets lost internally.

A method is described for checking support of a function at network elements of a telecommunication network, like an operation and management function. The telecommunication network includes a source, a destination and intermediate control plane elements interconnected through a signalling protocol for controlling a source, a destination and intermediate network elements respectively for configuration of a connection from the source to the destination network element crossing the intermediate network elements. The method includes the step, in case the connection is not configured, of transmitting a first message from the source to the destination control plane element crossing the intermediate control plane elements for indicating a request of the configuration of the connection and including a first field for indicating a request of the check of support of the function at each network element of the connection and the step of receiving at the source control plane element a second message transmitted from the destination control plane element for indicating an answer to the request and including the first field for indicating if the function is supported at each network element of the connection.

It is disclosed a method for monitoring traffic in a private VLAN, the traffic bidirectionally propagating across the private VLAN through a sequence of nodes sequentially connected by a primary VLAN and a secondary VLAN, the sequence of nodes comprising a first node and a second node, wherein the method comprises: transmitting a monitoring message from the first node to the second node either along the primary VLAN or the secondary VLAN, according to a first criterion based upon a type of the first node; receiving the monitoring message at the second node; and upon reception of the monitoring message at the second node, transmitting a reply message from the second node to the first node either along the primary VLAN or the secondary VLAN, according to a second criterion based upon a type of the second node and upon a VLAN different from the VLAN from which the monitoring message has been received.
