A device for processing a spine of a book block suspended from a circulating clamp on a conveyor of a bookbinding machine includes a processing device positioned opposite the clamp and facing the spine of the book block. A tensioning device is includes a fixed support roller to act perpendicularly on one side of the clamp and an overhang of the book block, and an adjustable pressing roller to act perpendicularly on another side of the clamp and the overhang of the book block. A controlled adjusting device is connected to the adjustable pressing roller. The controlled adjusting device adjusts the adjustable pressing roller based on a thickness of the book block.

A method and device for the conversion of a production plant for the post print processing, which production plant includes several post print processing machines and a plant central control unit. The method and device may be used for successively processing different production orders for turning partial products into finished print products. According to the method, it may first be determined when a last partial product of a first production order has left a post print processing machine. The post print processing machine may then be automatically and/or semi-automatically converted by the plant central control unit. The method may include determining, by the plant central control unit, when the conversion of the post print processing machine has been completed.

A glue applicator for applying an adhesive to the spine of a book block or to adjacent areas of a book block of stacked printed sheets being conducted past the glue applicator includes a tank holding liquid adhesive, into which at least one glue applicator roll dips to take up the adhesive and to transfer it to the spine of the book block, the roll being driven in the same travel direction as the book block, wherein the glue applicator roll works together with a doctor blade which is installed above the surface of the glue in the tank, and wherein the doctor blade determines the thickness of the adhesive film to be transferred to the spine of the book block through variation of its distance from the glue applicator roll, and where an actuating element for the doctor blade is positively connected to a cam disk, which is driven by a motor.

A system for gathering printed products includes a transport device and feed devices for the printed products, which form a gathering line, wherein the transport device has receiving points for the printed products located at regular intervals on a revolving traction apparatus. A sensor, which monitors the functionality of the receiving points along the transport line to detect defects, is connected to a control unit, which determines the feed of the printed products to the receiving points of the transport device.

An apparatus for gathering and/or assembling print products or supplements comprises a conveying section on a conveyor, along which feeding devices for supplying different types of print products are arranged. The feeding devices are driven with synchronous timing and are connected by respectively one drive to the conveyor. The conveyor and at least one feeding device are driven separately. A first measuring device is detects the position of a print product conveyed on a conveying section of the conveying track. A second measuring device is detects the position of a different print product located on a feed conveyor of one of the feeding devices. The measuring devices are connected to a control unit with computing capacity that is arranged to control the drives of the feeding devices.
