A technique for interconnecting circuit-switched (CS) and packet-switched (PS) domains enables network components () having a PS network access to make use of CS telephony services. A method embodiment of this technique comprises the steps of receiving PS control information according to a PS control protocol such as SIP, determining, in response to receipt of the PS control information, CS control information according to a CS control protocol such as DTAP, and sending the determined CS control information to a second network component () that is located on an application (or service) layer for provision of CS services, based on the determined CS control information, to the first network component ().

Technique for interconnecting circuit-switched and packet-switched domains

A method and apparatus provides for control of the quality of service for service groups by controlling the power of each service group. The carrier-to-interference requirements for which each service group achieves its minimum acceptable link quality is determined. The difference in carrier-to-interference requirements due to different requirements of fractions of satisfied users is compensated for. A power offset between the service group is determined using the compensated carrier-to-interference requirements.

Method and apparatus for controlling quality of service for multiple services through power setting

A transmit power control system and method is provided which utilizes an efficient allocation of average output power of a multi-carrier power amplifier (MCPA), the average output power being a weighted average of the actual power over multiple time slots. Periodically, using the efficient allocation system and method, there will be short periods where the desired average output power will exceed the maximum tolerable power of the MCPA, P . These short periods in which the desired output power will exceed P are handled by a system and method which produces a reduced margin between the total power per time slot and P This reduced margin allows the MCPA to serve a larger number of users per time slot than conventional MCPAs. Alternatively, the MCPA can serve the same number of users as a conventional MCPA, but with higher demands on output power for each user and/or more efficient use of the MCPA's resources.

Transmit power control for MCPA-equipped based stations

A method and an apparatus for providing radio access bearer services for different applications in a network having a core network and a radio access network through radio access bearers between the networks are presented. One or more session traffic flows being sent by an application are identified, the identified session is characterized in the form of parameters needed for the determination of the one or more radio access bearers. The characterized parameters are converted into radio access bearer attributes. One or more radio access bearers defined by the attributes are requested and established. Each session is mapped onto a correct radio access bearer established upon receiving the request. The one or more radio access bearers are released when no longer needed.

Method and apparatus for providing radio access bearer services

A control system for handling a range of data transfer rates within a telecommunication network is disclosed. The system comprises an application interpreter for generating at least one bearer request; an admission control apparatus for matching said at least one bearer request with at least one offered bearer to produce a negotiated bearer; and a radio resource manager for receiving the negotiated bearer and maintaining a level of quality specified in said bearer request.

Admission control of multiple adaptive and elastic applications

The present invention provides a method by which users may be moved between time slots or between base stations in order to better utilize the MCPA output power resources. According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, the power of all transceivers served by a certain MCPA is compared to a threshold value X. The value X is at least related to the capability of the MCPA in terms of output power. If at no times (i.e., at all time slots), the sum of the output power exceeds the threshold value X, it is assumed that the MCPA can handle all simultaneous transmissions. If, during at least one time slot it is found that the required output power exceeds the capability of the serving MCPA, then a reallocation or load sharing algorithm is invoked. The reallocation algorithm searches for time slots to which a reallocation could be performed within the same base station or number of transceivers served by the MCPA. If no time slots can handle users from the time slot in which the MCPA limit is exceeded, then a load sharing algorithm is activated and one starts to look for transmission resources in transceivers served by other MCPAs, e.g., other cells. A number of alternative embodiments of the invention is described, which relates to the way in which the reallocation or load sharing is performed. By reallocating or moving users of a particular kind, e.g., single slot users, and avoiding reallocation of users of other particular kinds, the load sharing and reallocation are further improved.

Load sharing for MCPA-equipped base station

In a mobile telecommunication system the transmission quality is dependent on a wide range of radio conditions. A method for extracting a useful estimation of the radio environment of a mobile station in communication in order to predict how the radio conditions will change in the near future for a considered mobile station in the near future. A measurement report is sent from the mobile station to the base station. The quality measure in the measurement report is filtered over the area by a smoothing filter ( ), and then processed through an updating filter ( ) resulting in a time varying map ( ). Several maps are classified ( ). Classified data are grouped ( ) resulting in the final map, which is stored in a database ( ). The final map may be used to enhance the performance of radio network algorithms.
