The present disclosure provides a method of enabling wireless access network selection at a multiplicity of wireless client devices. The method comprises: for each of a plurality of wireless access networks, collecting data indicative of at least wireless access technology, geographic coverage and performance; storing said data in a database available to a server; deriving, at the server, a client device network selection policy from the data, the policy defining network measurements to be carried out by a client device and criteria to be used by the client device to select one or more wireless networks; sending the network selection policy to a wireless client device; and applying the network selection policy at the wireless client device to select and attach to one or more given wireless access networks, performing one or more of said network measurements on the given wireless access network(s) and using the results to make a determination to remain attached to the given wireless access network(s) or to select and attach to a further wireless access network or networks.

Wireless access network selection

According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a method of implementing policy management in an IP Multimedia Subsystem, IMS, for users that are part of an organization or enterprise. The method comprises the steps of separating the users into a plurality of groups, each group being defined by a Group Document that is managed by an XML Document Management Server; for one or more of the groups, including one or more policies in the Group Document of the group; for each of the groups, including in the Group Document identities of groups to which the group is related; and when determining one or more policies that are to be applied to a user, taking account of any policies included in the Group Document of the user's group and any policies included in the Group Document of any related groups.

Policy management

A method of routing an IP Multimedia Subsystem, IMS, connection request sent by a user of a third party service, User A, towards a peer third party service user, User B, where the originating identity and target identity fields contain respectively external third party identities of User A and User B. The method comprises receiving said request at an IMS Access Gateway to an IMS network, and extracting said external identities and determining whether the extracted external identities are registered in respect of a wildcarded IMPU or wildcarded IMPUs that in turn is or are registered in the IMS network. In the event that these are registered, it is determined whether or not service logic is to be executed in the IMS network for both User A and User B and, if not, an IMS Edge Node routable identity associated with User B is determined. The IMS Edge Node routable identity is used to forward the IMS connection request to a terminating side IMS Edge Node.

Call routing for IP multimedia subsystem users

Requests between first and second IMS network domains are communicated by receiving an XDM request in the first domain. The XDM request relates to an XML document that can be accessed via the XDM request from a location in the second domain. A SIP request is created that includes information identifying it as a request that relates to an XDM request. The SIP request is sent to the second domain so that the SIP request can be routed to the location in the second domain based on the identifying information in the SIP request. A connection for XDM requests between the first and second domains is established.

Secure XDM communication between IMS networks

A method in a communication network of delivering messages associated with an information exchange service. A message, to be delivered between two entities is interrogated to determining if the data content has already been delivered to the terminating entity. If the data content has not already been delivered to the second entity, the message is transmitted to the second entity unchanged, while the message is modified, so that the modified message comprises a data identifier, identifying the data content, but no data content. The modified message is then transmitted to the terminating entity, and the data identifier is cached together with the associated data content when a successful transmission of the message has been verified. The suggested versioning mechanism enables transmission of messages with a reduced size.

Method of reducing size of presence messages

A method and arrangement in a notification server () for controlling notifications with resource data to a subscribing client (A). When a subscription request is received () from the client for notifications with selected resource data of one or more resources, the access network currently used by the client is determined based on network related information, e.g. obtained from the received subscription request. A method and arrangement for handling document requests in a communication services network. When a first document server () receives () a request for a first service document from a requesting party (), the requested first service document (Doc 1) is retrieved (), which comprises a reference (ref) to service related information in a second service document (Doc 2). The first document server () then fetches () said service related information (list) in the second service document using the information reference, and aggregates () the fetched service related information with the first service document. The first document server () finally returns () the first service document together with the aggregated service related information (Doc 1') to the requesting party in response to the received document request. Thereby, the requesting party is not forced to request for more documents than the first service document to obtain the needed information.

Method and arrangement for providing documents

A method, a server and a client for enabling time limited modifications of XML nodes in XML documents, where a modified document can be restored to its original content upon expiry of an expire time, which has been specified for the modification, are provided. A request for a time limited modification of an XML node, including an expire time, is transmitted from a client to a server. At the server, a timer is either started, in case no timer is pending for the XML node, or re-set, in case a timer is already pending for the XML node. The present version of the XML node is stored, before it is modified, according to modification data provided in the request. Upon timer timeout the requested modification will no longer be valid, and therefore the XML node is restored to its stored version of the XML node.

Method and arrangements for enabling modifications of XML documents

Presented are methods and apparatus for optimizing access to service capabilities information for clients associated with user in a communication system. Communications requesting service capabilities information is directed through one or more capabilities application servers for inspection before forwarding the requests to their destination user's client device. If the capabilities application server has previously stored the information then the reply is generated from information stored on the capabilities application server and no request is forwarded to the user's client device, optimizing the process by reducing network communications.

Method and apparatus for use in XML document management architecture

Embodiments of the present invention include a system and method for implementing a presence system. According to an embodiment of the present invention, responsive to receiving a request for presence information associated with a presentity from a watcher, the presence system receives instructions indicating that an authorization instance other than the presentity shall be given an opportunity to change or verify an authorization rule associated with the request for presence information. As a consequence, the presence system notifies the authorization instance of the request for presence information, thereby enabling the authorization instance to change or verify the authorization rule. The presence system also makes a final decision on the authorization rule on the basis of the instructions and a notification indicating a change or verification of the authorization rule.

Method and system for authorization of presence information

A method enabling a service at a communication network node and a network node adapted to execute the method is provided, wherein a first request, requesting for one or more operations to be associated with a symbol, is received from a first user. The request comprises an instruction, identifying one or more operations. The request triggers the generating of a unique symbol identity, and the creation of a symbol record, associated with the symbol identity, wherein the symbol record, linking the symbol identity to the one or more operations. At the node the symbol identity is also associated with the generated symbol, which is created by a symbol server and forwarded to the first user. Once the symbol has been received by the node in a second request, the symbol identity corresponding to the symbol is retrieved from the symbol server, and the service is enabled by executing the one or more operations according to the symbol record identified by the symbol identity.

Systems and methods for publishing presence information can be performed to reduce the amount of signaling associated with presence publication. A method for publishing presence service information to a presence server includes: receiving, at a registrar node, a session initiation protocol (SIP) message originated by a user equipment (UE) over the air interface; and transmitting a third party register message based upon the received SIP message, from the registrar node, toward a presence server using network signaling, wherein the third party register message includes at least one of information associated with the user of the UE, capabilities of the UE and presence related services offered by the UE.

Methods and systems for presence publication using SIP register feature tags

Systems and methods for reactively authorizing publication of information by a third party are coordinated through the use of a presence server. The presence server communicates with other communication nodes/devices to determine and relay publication information. Publication requests that are initially unauthorized, from the perspective of the presence server, are resolved.
