An assembly is configured to provide access to an interior volume of a breathing conduit. The assembly includes a piercing portion and a body portion. The piercing portion is configured to pierce through a wall of the breathing conduit to make an opening there through. The piercing portion is configured to be inserted through the opening, into the interior volume. The body portion includes a channel configured to provide fluid access to the interior volume. The assembly also includes a sealing configured to seal an area between the opening and the body portion. A breathing conduit kit includes a breathing conduit and an assembly.

A nasal patient interface arrangement is for transporting breathing gas from a pressurized gas supply to a patient. The arrangement provides a first bidirectional gas passage in contact with ambient air and receives nasally expired air. The arrangement includes an inspiratory air conduit connecting to a pneumatic unit. The arrangement also includes a nose adapter for bidirectional gas transport. The nose adapter is connected to a nose of the patient. The arrangement further includes a valve arrangement controlling the passage of gas through the first bidirectional gas passage. The arrangement provides a second bidirectional gas passage which is connected to the inspiratory air conduct, the nose adapter, and the first gas passage. The valve arrangement is substantially enclosed in the first bidirectional gas passage.

An anesthesia system has a unit for measuring oxygen concentration delivered to a patient, a unit for sending an alarm to an operator if the measured oxygen concentration is below a first threshold value, and a unit for automatically increasing a setting of oxygen in a fresh gas setting, so that the oxygen concentration delivered to a patient is increased, if the measured oxygen concentration is below a second threshold value. The system allows for increased safety or a lowered fresh gas flow with a maintained safety level.

A respiratory anesthetic aggregate devised for coupling to a breathing apparatus has an anesthetic gasifier unit that has a breathing gas input port connected to a first point in an inspiratory patient gas delivery path of a breathing apparatus, and a fresh gas output port connected to a second point in the patient gas delivery path downstream the first point. The inspiratory patient gas delivery path is connected via a mainstream connection between the first and second point. Thereby the anesthetic gasifier unit is connected in a sidestream configuration to the patient gas delivery path for adding the gasified anesthetic agent in a desired concentration to the patient gas delivery path at the second point. When aggregate is coupled to a breathing apparatus, a substantially volume neutral delivery of anesthetic agent is provided to the breathing apparatus.

In an apparatus for collection of waste anesthetic gases, and a method of using such an apparatus, the apparatus has a gas collection chamber with an input port to be connected to an exhaust of an anesthesia delivery system for receiving a first gas flow therefrom that contains a waste anesthetic gas component. An output port from the gas collection chamber is connected to a vacuum system for evacuation of an evacuation gas flow from the gas collection chamber. A bidirectional port leads to and from the gas collection chamber, which has an adsorbing unit connecting the gas collection chamber with an ambient environment surrounding the gas collection chamber. The apparatus provides for safe prevention of discharge of exhaled anesthetic gases into an ambient atmosphere surrounding the apparatus.

Method and apparatus for collection of waste anesthetic gases

A breathing apparatus for ventilating the lungs of a patient with breathing gas, has: a breathing circuit configuration; a mechanical ventilation system; a manual ventilation system provided with a manual ventilation bag; a manual ventilation valve for enabling manual ventilation of breathing gas from the breathing circuit; a pressure sensor devised to detect the pressure level in the breathing circuit; an electronically controlled expiration valve () that in a mechanical ventilation mode is controlled to control the pressure level in the breathing circuit according to a first set of predetermined control rules adapted to mechanical ventilation mode requirements; said electronically controlled expiration valve in a manual ventilation mode being coupled to enable ventilation of breathing gas from the breathing circuit by means of the manual ventilation system according to a second set of predetermined control rules adapted to manual ventilation mode requirements. In a method for controlling a breathing apparatus, an electronic expiration valve is controlled during the mechanical ventilation mode as well as during the manual ventilation mode of the apparatus. The control of the expiration valve can be implemented by means of a software product for the breathing apparatus embodying programming instructions as control rules, which, when executed in the apparatus, enable control of the expiration valve during manual ventilation.

In a method, ventilator and ventilator control unit for determining an end-expertorial lung volume (EELV) for a mechanically ventilated patient, a breathing gas is provided to the patient that has a first fixed N2/O2 gas composition, at least until the N2/O2 gas composition in air expired from the patient is constant. At least once, at a first predetermined point in time, the N2/O2 gas composition in the breathing gas is changed to a second fixed composition. The change in the N2/O2 gas composition exhaled by the patient for each breath is measured until a second point in time at which the level of expired Oin at least two subsequent breadths is substantially stable. The measurement is made downstream of the expiratory tube of the ventilator. The total gas volume is determined for each breath, and the EELV of the patient's lungs is determined based on the change in Olevel between the first and second points in time.

A delivery apparatus for pressurized medical liquids has a primary reservoir that pressurizes a medical liquid therein to a driving pressure, a second reservoir having an inlet connected to receive pressurized liquid from the primary reservoir via a controllable intermediate valve, and an outlet for discharge of the received medical liquid via a controllable dosing valve. A pressure measuring unit measures the pressure in the secondary reservoir and a control unit controls the intermediate valve and the dosing valve by monitoring the operation of the intermediate valve and the dosing valve dependent on the measured pressure value from the pressure measuring unit. The control unit generates a status signal dependent on predetermined rules for measured pressure changes compared with calculated pressure changes.

The anaesthetic device further has a remote control for wireless transmission of commands to the user interface. The user interface is adapted to carry out the commands from the remote control only when the anaesthetic device is set for manual ventilation.

An anesthetic delivery system has a delivery unit containing a carbon dioxide retaining element and a reversible action anesthetic absorber/desorber for releasably retaining therein at least a portion of a charge of anesthetic agent. An externally accessible first internal flow section in the delivery unit directs gas through the delivery unit first through the anesthetic absorber/desorber and then through the carbon dioxide retaining element, sequentially.
