Methods and apparatus for detecting and correlating content consumption, e.g., viewing of programs and/or accessing websites, across platforms of different types are described. Content consumption, e.g., requests and/or streaming is monitored and recorded on a per subscriber basis for a wide variety of platforms, e.g., set boxes, IP content playback devices such as cell phones or pad devices with IP streaming support, and/or other devices. Web site access and corresponding content consumption is determined based on DNS requests thereby avoiding the need for monitoring at web site servers and allowing centralized monitoring of web site access operations in the form of DNS requests to be detected by a Web service provider who, at least in some embodiments, is also a content provider.

Methods and apparatus for cross platform monitoring and customer targeting

Methods and apparatus for evaluating collected data relating to online activity, and modification of services within a service provider network. In one embodiment, a service provider collects data relating to the online activity of users of third-party services and correlates the data with subscribers of the service provider to generate useful products and analytics (e.g., classifications, behavioral models, etc.) containing information relating to the subscribers' online activity. The generated products may be used to determine whether and how to modify services provided to individual subscribers, exported for use by third parties, or for other purposes.

Apparatus and methods for data collection, analysis and service modification based on online activity

A mobile communication device initiates display of a point of interest as being located at particular coordinates on a map. In response to receiving an input command from a user of the mobile communication device indicating that the particular location of the point of interest as specified by the map is incorrect, the mobile communication device forwards a communication (specifying a location of the mobile communication device and an identity of the point of interest) over a network to a map management resource. Based on feedback from the mobile communication device, the map management resource updates map data an actual location of the point of interest as opposed to an incorrect location as specified by the particular coordinates on the map. Subsequent distribution of the updated map information from the map management resource specifies the proper coordinates of the point of interest in the geographical region.

Map information management and correction of geodata

A file is multicast from an error-correcting multicast apparatus to a plurality of endpoints forming a first multicast group, over a network segmented into at least second and third multicast groups. The second and third multicast groups are subsets of the first multicast group. Given ones of the endpoints are assigned to the second and third multicast groups based on likelihood of experiencing similar errors. At the error-correcting multicast apparatus, over the network, a retransmission request is obtained from a first one of the endpoints, based on at least one of loss and corruption of a portion of the file during the multicasting of the file to the first one of the endpoints. The portion of the file is retransmitted, via multicasting, over the network, to one of the second and third multicast groups.

Apparatus, method and computer program product for error correction in variably reliable and/or hierarchical networks

Traffic is obtained from a plurality of internet protocol version six addresses within a plurality of internet protocol version six blocks; and a first indication of inappropriate traffic is obtained from a first one of the addresses. Responsive to the first indication of inappropriate traffic, a reputation score for a first given one of the blocks, containing the first one of addresses, is incremented by a first predetermined amount; and a reputation score for a second given one of the blocks, adjacent the first given one of the blocks, is incremented by a second predetermined amount which is less than the first predetermined amount. Traffic from the plurality of addresses within the plurality of blocks is passed or blocked in accordance with a policy based on the incremented reputation scores for the first and second given ones of the blocks.

Mechanism for establishing reputation in a network environment

A system and method for resolving a DNS request using metadata. An intelligent name server receives a request to resolve a domain name via a network. The intelligent name server acquires at least one metadata element about the source of the request. The domain name request is transformed into a CNAME request that includes the at least one metadata element and the domain name to be resolved. The CNAME request is sent to a metadata aware DNS server for resolution. The metadata aware DNS server maps the domain name to one or more network addresses stored in a look-up table. The included metadata is used to select a 'best' host address to include in a response.

System and method for resolving a DNS request using metadata

Traffic is obtained from a plurality of internet protocol version six addresses within a plurality of internet protocol version six blocks; and a first indication of inappropriate traffic is obtained from a first one of the addresses. Responsive thereto, a reputation score for a first given one of the blocks, containing the first one of the internet protocol version six addresses, is incremented by a first predetermined amount; and a reputation score for an adjacent block is incremented by a second predetermined amount which is less than the first predetermined amount. Traffic from the plurality of internet protocol version six addresses within the plurality of internet protocol version six blocks is passed or blocked in accordance with a policy based on the incremented reputation scores for the first block and adjacent block. Techniques for internet protocol version four (individual and network address translation aspects) are also provided.
