An exemplary process generally involves forming a cover for a door hardware apparatus comprising a body. Forming the cover generally includes forming a substrate of a non-metallic material such that at least a portion of the substrate conforms to at least a portion of the body, and forming an outer layer on at least a portion of the substrate, the outer layer including a metallic material.

An exemplary credential reader includes a touch-sensitive region and is configured to generate tap information and/or swipe information in response to the touch-sensitive region being tapped and/or swiped. In certain forms, the touch-sensitive region is a non-displaying track pad. In other forms, the touch-sensitive region is a touch-sensitive display. A lockset including the credential reader further includes a controller configured to generate credential information based upon information received from the credential reader. The controller may compare the credential information to an authorized credential and transmit a grant/deny signal based upon the comparing.

A door handle is configured for mounting to a door, and includes a shell having a front side and a rear side, with the shell defining an internal chamber. A shank extends from the rear side of the shell, and a light source is seated in the internal chamber. A window pattern is positioned on the rear side of the shell such that the light source is operable to project onto the door a light pattern corresponding to the window pattern.

A user interface display system that is associated with an electronic lock that provides feedback to a user that is engaging the electronic lock. A user interface display system includes a user interface display to depict to the user feedback patterns with each feedback pattern that is displayed to the user providing the feedback to the user. An electrochromic filter transitions a color depicted by the user interface display to correspond to the feedback pattern depicted by the user interface display. Each feedback pattern that is displayed provides a corresponding color that is associated with the feedback that is provided to the user as the user engages the electronic lock. A controller transitions the electrochromic filter to each color to correspond with the feedback pattern that is displayed by the user interface display so that the transitioned color and the feedback pattern that is displayed is in response to the user engaging the electronic lock.

A lightweight audio player for vehicular application is virtually 'fastenerless' and includes a fold-up case formed of polymer based material molded to provide details to accept audio devices, as well as the circuit boards required for electrical control and display. The case is of composite structure, including an insert molded electrically conductive wire mesh screen. The wire mesh provides shielding and grounding of the circuit boards via exposed wire mesh pads and adjacent ground clips. Side wall closure members define self-engaging attachment features for affixing to the case, providing electrical self-grounding with the wire screen and thermal grounding with internal power devices. The major components and subassemblies are self-fixturing during the final assembly process, eliminating the need for dedicated tools, fixtures and assembly equipment.

Lightweight electronic system for automotive applications and method

An electronic coded entry lock that includes a multifunction switch having an actuator and a circuit member. The actuator is configured to be displaced to a plurality of input positions. For example, the actuator may be displaced to at least four, and in some instances at least eight, input positions. Further, the actuator may have at least two axes of movement. Moreover, the actuator may be configured for two or three dimensional movement. When the actuator is displaced to an input position, the circuit member may provide a signal associated with that input position. The controller may determine whether the signals provided by the circuit member correspond to a security code for the electronic coded entry lock. If the signal(s) does/do correspond to the security code, the controller may generate a command to actuate a lock actuator that displaces at least a component of a lock mechanism.

A flexible enclosure assembly for an electronic device for vehicular application is virtually 'fastenerless' and includes a preform blank of conductive sheet material such as wire screen mesh or the like which defines upper, lower and a plurality of side wall portions flexibly interconnected by living hinges. A framework of resilient elastomeric material is insert molded to the preform blank to provide three-dimensional case details to accept one or more electronic devices such as circuit boards required for electrical control and display of vehicle based systems. The conductive sheet material is preferably a wire mesh which provides shielding from electrical anomalies and grounding of the circuit boards via exposed wire mesh pads and adjacent ground clips. Major components and subassemblies are self-fixturing during the final assembly process, eliminating the need for dedicated tools, fixtures and assembly equipment.

A lightweight radio/CD player for vehicular application is virtually 'fastenerless' and includes a case and frontal interface formed of polymer based material that is molded to provide details to accept audio devices such as playback mechanisms (if desired) and radio receivers, as well as the circuit boards required for electrical control and display. The case and frontal interface are of composite structure, including an insert molded electrically conductive wire mesh screen that has been pre-formed to contour with the molding operation. The wire mesh provides EMC, RFI, BCI and ESD shielding and grounding of the circuit boards via exposed wire mesh pads and adjacent ground clips. The PCB architecture integrally forms a resilient beam portion adjacent an edge thereof carrying a grounding pad. The major components and subassemblies are self-fixturing during the final assembly process and self-interconnect by integral guide and connection features effecting 'slide lock' and &#x201c;snap lock&#x201d; self-interconnection.
