Systems and methods for diagnosing operation of valves that control exhaust flow through crossover pipes are described. In one example, the diagnostics may be based on output of upstream and downstream oxygen sensors. In particular, correlation between output of an upstream oxygen sensor and a downstream oxygen sensor may be indicative of a valve not being in an expected position.

Systems and methods for detecting and compensating miswiring of oxygen sensors of a cylinder bank of an engine are disclosed. In one example, fuel control parameters are monitored to determine whether or not the fuel control parameters diverge to fuel control thresholds. If so, a controller may switch which cylinder's equivalence ratios are adjusted in response to output of a particular oxygen sensor.

Methods and systems for verifying oxygen sensor connections

Methods and systems are provided for maintaining efficiency of a catalyst that is positioned in an exhaust system downstream of an internal combustion engine. Methods and systems are provided for detection of cylinder misfire in an engine. In one example, a system may comprise a first cylinder and second cylinder of the engine having exhaust flows combined together in an exhaust system before being combined with other cylinders of the engine. The first cylinder and second cylinder may share an exhaust gas sensor mounted in the exhaust in a position to sense exhaust from the first cylinder and second cylinder, and being positioned before exhaust from other cylinders is combined with sensed exhaust from the first cylinder and second cylinder. The system may further include a control system with instructions stored therein to indicate detected misfire in one or more of the first and second sensors based on an output from the exhaust gas sensor.

Systems and methods for cylinder misfire detection

Methods and systems are provided for a vehicle engine having a pre-chamber ignition system. In one example, a method may include adjusting one or more of an air injection amount and a fuel injection amount to a pre-chamber of an engine based on an air injection offset and a fuel injection offset learned while discontinuing fueling to cylinders of the engine and reducing air flow through the engine. In this way, air and fuel may be more accurately provided to the pre-chamber, thereby decreasing an occurrence of pre-chamber misfire.

Methods and systems are provided for providing secondary air to an exhaust system during catalyst warm-up. In one example, a method may include, during a cold start condition, operating an engine with a first number of cylinders unfired and a remaining number of cylinders fired during an engine cycle, opening an intake valve of an unfired cylinder of the first number of cylinders during an expansion stroke of the unfired cylinder, and opening an exhaust valve of the unfired cylinder during a compression stroke of the unfired cylinder. In this way, the unfired cylinders may provide the secondary air to the exhaust system during a stroke that increases mixing of the secondary air with burned exhaust gas from fired cylinders, thus increasing exotherm production in the exhaust system to increase a temperature of the catalyst.

Methods and system for operating skipped cylinders to provide secondary air

Systems and methods for operating an engine that is started via expansion stroke combustion are described. In one example, the method increases air flow through the engine during an engine stopping process so that a larger amount of air may be trapped in a cylinder that is on its expansion stroke so that greater amounts of engine torque may be provided during engine starting.

Systems and methods for starting and operating a direct injection engine are described. In one example, the air and fuel are injected into a pre-chamber of a cylinder of an engine while the engine is not rotating. The air and fuel are combusted in the pre-chamber to improve ignition of an air and fuel mixture in the cylinder.
