A vehicle safety system and method for controlling usage of mobile devices in a vehicle is disclosed that includes determining mobile device location in the vehicle; determining vehicle movement; determining whether device is being used by the driver based on device location; and monitoring or limiting usage of the device based on whether its being used by the driver while the vehicle is moving. An electronic beacon located in the vehicle can be used in determining device location. The method can include monitoring activation and usage of device functionality; maintaining an enforcement list of functionality to be limited when used by the driver; determining if any functionality on the enforcement list is attempting to activate, and if so limiting or disabling activation of that functionality. The method can include generating a device motion/usage profile for the driver while driving, and scoring the driver based on the device motion/usage profile.

Vehicle safety system and method

The present solution can include a configurable interface for controlling data sent from a mobile device. This interface can include multiple, configurable options that permit a mobile device user to control how often outgoing data is sent from the device. These options can include: a push on schedule option, a push within a time counted from when outgoing data was queued for delivery option, a push on volume option, a push immediately option, an auto-adjusting push option, and a customized push option based upon a user-adjustable sliding scale between two competing considerations.

Mobile device solution that provides enhanced user control for outgoing data handling

The present invention discloses a technique for a user to control a manner in which a data store of a mobile device synchronizes with a remotely located data store. More specifically, synchronization actions can be automatically executed by comparing combinations of user modifiable device settings against device-specific conditions. Device conditions can include device resources, timing parameters, and user-defined criteria, such as data priority, device location, and application-specific conditions. In one embodiment, the invention provides a means to override an application's existing synchronization rules. This permits synchronization for a device that includes multiple applications to be centrally and consistently handled, even when the applications normally lack synchronization control capabilities.

Technique for synchronizing data with a mobile device based on a synchronization context

A method for exchanging data with a mobile device that begins with the step of detecting a data exchange event. Next, at least one data exchange threshold is identified for the mobile device. An exchange urgency value is then determined and compared to the data exchange threshold. If the comparison is favorable, then the data exchange occurs immediately. Otherwise, the data exchange is placed in a delayed transmission queue, to be sent after a delay period.

Synchronization technique for exchanging data with a mobile device that conserves the resources of the mobile device

A method and apparatus for rolled fingerprint capture is described. The start of a fingerprint roll is detected. A plurality of fingerprint image frames are captured. A centroid window corresponding to each of the plurality of captured fingerprint image frames is determined. Pixels of each determined centroid window are knitted into a composite fingerprint image. The end of the fingerprint roll is detected.
