A lactic acid based hot-melt adhesive with an amorphous lactic acid oligomer tackifier. A hot-melt adhesive (HMA) includes: a lactic acid and caprolactone copolymer resin, a crystalline lactic acid oligomer wax, and said amorphous lactic acid oligomer tackifier, characterized in that the amorphous lactic acid oligomer tackifier includes an amorphous polymerisation product of a) lactic acid monomer and b) a multifunctional polymerization initiator containing three or more hydroxy and/or amino groups. The use of the amorphous lactic acid oligomer tackifier in a lactic acid-based hot-melt adhesive, to a method for adhering substrates together using a hot-melt adhesive including said amorphous lactic acid oligomer tackifier, and to a specific amorphous lactic acid oligomer tackifier and a method of its preparation.

Tackifier for lactic acid based hot-melt adhesive

The invention pertains to a non-reactive hot-melt adhesive comprising 10-90 wt. %, calculated on the weight of the adhesive, of amorphous thermoplastic resin which is compatible with polylactic acid, wherein the amorphous thermoplastic resin is a random copolymer of lactic acid and further reactive monomer, 10-90 wt. %, calculated on the weight of the adhesive, of a polylactic acid polymer unit (PLAU) selected from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLAU) and poly-D-lactic acid (PDLAU), the unit having a number average molecular weight of at least 0.75 kg/mol.

Non-reactive hot-melt adhesive with specific resin

A hot-melt adhesive includes a copolymer having first and second blocks, wherein the first block is an amorphous copolymer of lactic acid and a further polymerisable monomer and the second block is a polylactic acid polymer selected from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) and poly-D-lactic acid (PDLA), the first block having a number average molecular weight of at least 0.5 kg/mol and the second block having a number average molecular weight of at least 1 kg/mol. Preferably, the hot-melt adhesive also has 0.5-20 wt. %, calculated on the weight of the copolymer of a polylactic acid unit (PLAU) which has a stereochemistry which is opposite to the stereochemistry of the second block in the copolymer. The non-reactive hot-melt adhesive combines a good adhesive performance with storage stability resulting from a low cold-flow. Further, the adhesive is at least partially based on polymers which can be prepared from renewable resources.

Non-reactive hot-melt adhesive with lactide-based copolymer

A non-reactive hot-melt adhesive including 10-90 wt. %, calculated on the weight of the adhesive, of amorphous thermoplastic resin which is compatible with polylactic acid, 10-90 wt. %, calculated on the weight of the adhesive, of a polylactic acid polymer unit (PLAU) selected from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLAU) and poly-D-lactic acid (PDLAU), the unit having a number average molecular weight of at least 0.75 kg/mol, and 0.5-20 wt. %, preferably 1-10 wt. %, calculated on the weight of the first PLAU, of a second polylactic acid polymer unit (PLAU) selected from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLAU) and poly-D-lactic acid (PDLAU), the unit having a number average molecular weight of at least 0.75 kg/mol, wherein when the first PLAU is PLLAU, the second PLAU is PDLAU and when the first PLAU is PDLAU, the second PLAU is PLLAU.

Non-reactive hot-melt adhesive with set time improver

The present invention relates to a polyester polyol, suitable for use in the manufacture of a polyurethane, suitable for use in the manufacture of a polyurethane, the polyester polyol having an ABA-structure, in which A represents a lactide-oligomer and in which B represents an initiator. The initiator includes a reaction product having long chain dicarboxylic acid components having 18 or more carbon atoms. The invention also relates to a method for the manufacture of the polyester polyol. The invention further pertains to polyurethanes including the before-mentioned polyester polyol as well as the use of these polyurethanes as an elastomer having a high toughness. The toughness is believed to originate from the combination of the hydrophobic character of the initiator and the hydrophilic character of the lactide parts in the polyol structure. The strength of the invented polylactide-polyurethane elastomers can be further improved by incorporating a carbodiimide in the elastomer material.

Polyester polyol for use in polyurethane

A non-reactive hot melt adhesive containing a copolymer being substantially composed of a reaction product of lactide (L) and caprolactone (C) in a molar ratio (L/C) of at least 1.5. The adhesive further includes a carbodiimide compound. The presence of a small but effective amount of carbodiimide causes a stabilizing effect on the sealing properties of the adhesive, especially if it is exposed to higher temperatures. A method manufactures the adhesive and a method seals a package with the adhesive.
