A wireline configurable well logging instrument is connected to a drill pipe carrier and movable from a retracted position to an extended position. The drill pipe carrier is positioned on a pipe string that may comprise a portion of wired pipes communicatively coupled at each joint. Communication between the drill pipe carrier and the well logging instrument includes the use of inductive couplers, wires and combinations thereof.

System and method for communicating between a drill string and a logging instrument

A field joint for connecting a plurality of downhole tool modules is disclosed. The modules include a housing and an electrical line. A bulkhead is coupled to a first module that includes a first conduit aperture for receiving an electrical connector assembly. The first electrical connector assembly is releasably coupled to the exterior portion of the first module and includes a first connector having a first end adapted for electrical coupling to an electrical line. A connector block is coupled to the second module that includes a second conduit aperture positioned to substantially face the first conduit aperture when the first and second modules are joined. A second electrical connector is disposed in the second conduit aperture and is electrically coupled to an electrical line such that an electrical contact is established with a second end of the first connector when the first and second modules are joined.

Field joint for a downhole tool

A field joint used to connect downhole tool modules. The field joint includes a bulkhead, a connector block, and various electrical connections. The bulkhead couples to a first tool module and has a first connection face, which partially defines an exterior of the first tool module and has a first conduit aperture that receives an electrical connector assembly. An electrical connector assembly received in the first conduit aperture is releasably coupled to the exterior of the first tool module, and includes a first connector. The connector block is coupled to a second tool module and has a second connection face defining a second conduit aperture positioned to face the first conduit aperture when the tool modules are joined. A second electrical connector disposed in the second conduit aperture establishes electrical contact with the first connector when the first and second tool modules are joined.

Transducer apparatus for subsurface use. A tubular configured for subsurface disposal is equipped with a cylindrical transducer module formed of a non-conductive material. The module is mounted to surround a section of the tubular and includes a transducer element disposed thereon such that only a surface of the element is exposed along the exterior of the module body. The transducer element is linked to a lead routed through the cylindrical body to exit near the inner bore of the body. The ends of the cylindrical body are covered with a material to form a hydraulic seal. A method for constructing the transducer apparatus.

Transducer assemblies for subsurface use

A well logging instrument deployment device includes a housing configured to be coupled to a pipe string. A carrier sub is disposed inside the housing and configured to move longitudinally inside the housing. At least one well logging instrument is coupled to the carrier sub. A latch is configured to retain the well logging instrument and carrier sub in a first longitudinal position along the housing such that the well logging instrument is disposed entirely inside the housing. The latch is configured to retain the well logging instrument and carrier in a second position such that at least a portion of the well logging instrument extends outwardly from the housing.
