An information handling system can comprise first and second housings having pivotally coupled rear edge portions such that the housings are pivotable between open and closed states. A hinge cover can extend along at least a portion of each housing's rear edge portion. A flexible printed circuit having opposing upper and lower surfaces can extend between the housings. The circuit can include a cover segment in which the circuit's upper surface is fixed to the hinge cover's inner surface, two housing segments that are each fixed to a respective one of the housings, and two free segment that each connect a respective one of the housings segments to the cover segment, are movable relative to the hinge cover and to the housings when the housings pivot between the open and closed states, and underlie the inner surface of the hinge cover when the housings are in the open state.

Information handling systems with a flexible printed circuit tensioning system and methods of making the same

A hinge apparatus may include a plurality of plates configured to be rigidly coupled to a foldable component, and a plurality of gears mechanically coupling the plurality of plates to one another. The hinge apparatus may be operable to expand such that, when the hinge apparatus transitions from a flat state to a folded state, the plurality of gears are configured to cause the plurality of plates to translate laterally apart from one another at a selected rate.

Synchronous multi-segment hinge for foldable devices

A portable information handling system rotationally couples first and second housing portions with a multi-axis hinge and disposes a flexible display over the first and second housing portions supported by a first sliding support over the first housing portion and a second sliding support over the second housing portion. An actuator interfaced with the multi-axis hinge translates hinge axis rotation into lateral movement of the sliding supports to adjust sliding support positions relative to flexible display positions as the flexible display folds around the hinge inner circumference.
