A microwavable dish having a body with a microwave-absorbing coating. A bottom of the microwavable dish or the microwave-absorbing coating defines or includes a dome portion. The microwave-absorbing coating can be coupled to or formed with the bottom of the microwavable dish. The microwave-absorbing coating provides heat to the body by transforming microwaves to heat. The microwave-absorbing coating can include a plurality of nubs, where each nub has a height and a nub diameter.

A method for fabricating a conductor includes providing a plurality of conductive nano-scale material elements, dispersing the nano-scale material elements within a resin to provide a resin-nano-scale material mixture, aligning the nano-scale material elements within the resin-nano-scale material mixture, and curing the resin-nano-scale material mixture.

A method for manufacturing a connection for composite tubing is disclosed. The method includes maintaining tension on the composite fibers while 'winding in' the connector to the composite tubing. The tension on the fibers results in the fibers bridging across traps of the connector as they are being wound. The bridging results in improved load bearing characteristics of the connection.

A fiber reinforced plastic article is disclosed which include a liner, at least one single material fiber layer wound on the liner, and at least one composite fiber layer wound on the single material fiber layer. The at least one single material fiber layer and the at least one hybrid fiber layer are impregnated with resin.

Structure for wound fiber reinforced plastic tubing and method for making

A pipe coupling and connector for use with composite pipe, and a method of coupling the end of composite pipe are disclosed. The coupling or connector has a cylindrical inner support with a gripping surface, a means for preventing axial movement of slips that are disposed around the gripping surface, and a coupling connector. The slips form an assembly with an outer frustoconical surface and an inner gripping surface. A hollow outer sleeve with a surface that corresponds to the frustoconical surface is used to drive the slips radially inwards so that the wall of the pipe is both compressed and gripped by the coupling. A retaining member holds the outer sleeve in a fixed position relative to the slips. The coupling, connector and method of this invention provide the structural integrity needed to ensure that the end of the pipe meets or exceeds the design ratings of the pipe.

Coupling for composite pipe

A flexible, fiber reinforced pipe has been invented for conveying fluids. The pipe is flexible enough to be spoolable, even under winter temperature conditions. The pipe can contain pressure, when buried, unrestrained and bent. The pipe exhibits impact resistance under normal handling and can be formed using a continuous process, such that it can be manufactured as it is being laid. A flexible, fiber reinforced pipe includes an inner tubular liner having an inner surface and an outer surface; a first layer of reinforcing fibers helically wrapped about the inner liner and in direct contact therewith; an outer layer of reinforcing fibers helically wrapped about an underlying layer of reinforcing fibers and in direct contact therewith; and an outer tubular sheath applied over the outer layer in direct contact therewith.

Fiber reinforced pipe

A system and method for winding fibers onto an article is disclosed. The system includes a winding station having a controllable speed of rotation. The winding station has at least one fiber bobbin mounted on it. A rotation sensor is rotationally coupled to the winding station. The system includes a conveyor having a controllable speed and which is adapted to move the article axially through the winding station. A speed sensor, adapted to measure an axial speed of motion of the article through the winding station is positioned near the winding station. The system includes a controller adapted to operate the winding station at a rotational speed corresponding to the axial speed of motion, so as to apply the fibers to the article in a predetermined helical pattern. In one example, the helical pattern is held to a lay angle having a tolerance within one-half degree. In the method, the rotational speed of the winding station is adjusted to correspond to the axial motion of the article so that the fibers are wound in a predetermined helical pattern. In one example of the method, the lay angle of the fibers is held to within a tolerance of about one half degree. In another example, the lay angle is selected to correspond to the axial position of the article within the winding station.

Apparatus and method for making wound-fiber reinforced articles

A connector for joining a segment of composite pipe is disclosed. The connector includes an end connector having at least one fiber trap on its outer surface thereof. The end connector is attached to a liner portion of the segment of composite pipe. Fibers forming an outer surface of the segment of composite pipe are wound around the at least one trap under tension. The connector includes a binder which impregnates the fibers. The tension is maintained on the fibers in the trap during cure of the binder.

Connection for composite tubing

A method is disclosed for coupling a stub end flanged connector to a fiber reinforced plastic pipe. The method includes tapering an end of the fiber reinforced plastic pipe on the outside surface of its fiber overwrap. An inside surface of a stub end connector is correspondingly tapered. The stub end connector is then bonded to the fiber reinforced plastic pipe. A liner of the plastic pipe is then flared to correspond to a flared end of the stub end connector. Then at least one stiffness transition layer is bonded over the plastic pipe and the stub end connection, over an axial span at least including a termination of the taper in the stub end connector.
