Metric time series (MTS) data objects stored within in-memory storage are marked as inactive in response to determining that no MTS data has been received for the MTS objects within a first predetermined time period. In response to determining that an MTS object has been inactive for longer than a second predetermined time period, the MTS data object is migrated from in-memory storage to on-disk storage. Queries directed to MTS objects are first run against MTS object data stored within in-memory storage, and then against MTS object data stored within on-disk storage. In this way, an amount of in-memory storage needed to store MTS objects may be minimized, while optimizing search performance.

Creating and searching tiered metric time series object storage

Systems and methods for streaming billing data associated with third-party network resources consumed by a managed network to a remote network management platform are disclosed. Streaming of billing usage data associated with third-party resources may use resource identifiers to associate resources with line items in a service bill generated by the third-party network. A proxy server in the managed network may intermediate streaming from the third-party network to a remote server in a computational instance of the remote network management platform. Billing data may be recorded partly in a metric-base database configured for storing time series data corresponding to usage quantities of third-party resources consumed by the managed network per unit time, and partly in a static records database configured for storing database records associated with the time series data, and including data for identifying the third-party resources and for recording static information relating to billing for the third-party resources.

Preprocessing and storage of cloud service usage reports

A remote network management platform may include a database containing records relating to units of reserved and on-demand computing resources provided by a third-party network and a processor disposed within a computational instance. The processor may be configured to obtain utilization reports regarding the managed network from the third-party network and calculate, for each hour-of-day across one or more days of usage, respective hourly average units of utilization, by the managed network, of the reserved and on-demand computing resources. The processor may also calculate output values respectively associated with different combinations of the reserved and on-demand computing resources that jointly satisfy the hourly average units of utilization and select an allocation of the reserved computing resources that is within a threshold of a minimum output value of the output values. The processor may further change the number of allocated units to be the selected allocation of reserved computing resources.
