A radiofrequency system includes a plurality of transceivers providing a plurality of channels, and circuitry configured to perform off-channel functions. A first subset of channels performs radiofrequency communication functions, and a second subset of channels provides signals for the off-channel functions. The first subset of channels may be provided by a first subset of transceivers, and the second subset of channels may be provided by a second subset of transceivers. A spectrum sensing unit may select between the first subset of transceivers and the second subset of transceivers. The circuitry configured to perform the off-channel functions may use the second subset of the plurality of channels to perform neighborhood discovery. The circuitry configured to perform the off-channel functions may scan available communications channels for interference, storing identifications of interference-free channels, and, upon detection of interference on a channel in use, may select one of the interference-free channels.

Systems and techniques relating to wireless networking, namely employing power management (PM) indication mechanisms in addition to ROM indication mechanisms so as to support ROM related outage period enhancements, include: transmitting a first data frame, wherein a format of the first data frame comprises: (i) a field indicating a change in receive operation mode (ROM) settings, and (ii) a subfield having a value indicating a power management mode of the wireless device; receiving an acknowledgement frame to enable a power management mode associated with the subfield in the first frame, the acknowledgement frame having been transmitted by a second wireless device in response to receiving the first frame by the second wireless device, wherein the power management mode delays transmission of additional frames to the first wireless device until receiving a second data frame having a value indicating a change in the power management mode.

The present disclosure describes methods and apparatus for advertising a service in a wireless network via surrogacy. A principal (e.g., first) wireless communication device may request via a first wireless channel that an agent (e.g., second) wireless communication device (i) act as a surrogate and (ii) function in accordance with a social announcement scheme, which is associated with a second wireless channel, and with regard to a service that is available. The principal wireless communication device may have offered services or wanted services. The agent wireless communication device may perform an announcement operation with other wireless communication device(s) on behalf of the principal wireless communication device via the second wireless channel to discover or advertise a service that is available. The agent wireless communication device may report a result of the announcement operation, which result may include an identification of service(s) that are made available by other wireless communication device(s).

Methods and apparatus for advertising a service in a wireless network

An access point including a first processor and a network device. The network device is separate from the first processor. The first processor transitions between first and second power modes. The network device includes a second processor and first and second interfaces. The second processor, while the first processor is in the second power mode, (i) causes the second interface to transmit a beacon, or (ii) receives a probe request from a client device. The second interface, while the first processor is in the second power mode, (i) transmits a probe response over a wireless local area network to the client device based on the beacon or the probe request, and (ii) receives an authentication frame from the client device based on the probe response. The second processor, in response to the authentication frame, signals the first processor via the first interface to transition to the first power mode.

A wireless network device includes a wireless network port, first and second virtual machines, and a processor. While executing the first virtual machine, the processor stores, in a third queue, data to be processed by the first virtual machine and the first virtual machine maintains, in a first queue, a copy of the data stored in the third queue. While executing the second virtual machine, the processor stores, in the third queue, data to be processed by the second virtual machine and the second virtual machine maintains, in a second queue, a copy of the data stored in the third queue. Upon resuming execution, the first virtual machine transfers, to the third queue, the copy of the data maintained in the first queue. Upon resuming execution, the second virtual machine transfers, to the third queue, the copy of the data maintained in the second queue.

In one aspect, a wireless station includes a transmitter to wirelessly transmit discovery packets to a proximately located network device, a receiver to wirelessly receive an input from the proximately located network device, an engine to manage a configuration of the network device, and a power selector to control a power level output by the transmitter, enable transmission at a first power during configuration of the proximately located network device, and enable transmission at a second power after configuration of the proximately located network device, wherein the first power is different than the second power, and the first power helps prevent snooping during the configuration.

Techniques and systems for associating a client with an access point using a security protocol are described. A described technique includes initiating an association request; establishing an association between a first device and a second device different from the first device based on the association request; participating in a handshake including exchanging an operational key between the first device and the second device during the handshake; and entering an operational phase using the operational key when the handshake is successful. Participating in the handshake can include participating in an authenticated handshake when the association request indicates an authenticated access, and participating in an unauthenticated handshake when the association request indicates an unauthenticated access.
