Techniques for implementing a hybrid search for documents having a parent-child relationship are disclosed. In some embodiments, a computer-implemented method comprises: building a base index using a first table of parent documents and a second table of child documents, the base index storing document identifiers of the parent and child documents in contiguous document blocks, where each document block stores the document identifier of a parent documents and the document identifier of each one of the child documents that is related to the parent document in a sorted order; subsequent to the building of the base index, updating a live index to include document identifiers of additional parent documents that have been added the first table and document identifiers of additional child documents that have been added to the second table; and computing a hybrid set of search results for a search query using the base index and the live index.

Hybrid search for parent-child related documents

Methods, systems, and computer programs are presented for improving search speed and quality using differential indexing. One method includes an operation for building a first index for a database, the first index being for first tokens resulting from normalizing words in input data. Further, the method includes building a second index for the database, the second index being for second tokens comprising words of the input data eliminated from the first index during the normalizing. The method further includes operations for receiving a raw query for a search of the database, and for generating a search query based on tokens of the raw query. The search query comprises a combined search of the first index and the second index. A search is performed based on the search query, and results of the search are returned for presentation on a display.

Differential indexing for fast database search

Subject matter described herein includes a multi-layer search-engine index. Accordingly, the search-engine index is divided into multiple indexes, each of which includes a respective set of information used to serve (i.e., respond to) a query. One index includes a term index, which organizes a set of terms that are found among a collection of documents. Another index includes a document index, which organizes a set of documents that are searchable. A computing device is used to serve the search-engine index (i.e., to analyze the index when identifying documents relevant to a search query). For example, a solid-state device might be used to serve the multi-layer search-engine index.
