An image classification apparatus and method for Automatic White Balance (AWB) are provided. An input image is divided into blocks including pluralities of pixels. A hue value and a chroma value are calculated for each of the blocks. A color-changed block is detected by calculating, for each one of the blocks, differences between the hue and chroma values calculated for all blocks adjacent to the one of the blocks and the hue and chroma values calculated for the one of the blocks. A hue variance and a chroma variance are calculated for the entire input image if a number of the detected color-changed blocks is greater than or equal to a first threshold. The input image is determined as a non-monochromatic image, if the hue variance is greater than or equal to a second threshold or the chroma variance is greater than or equal to a third threshold.

Apparatus and method for classifying images

An image processing method and an image processing apparatus converts a binary image into a grayscale image by increasing the size and information quantity of the binary image. The image processing method includes generating a plurality of lookup tables having multiple gray level values assigned to a predetermined pattern of the binary image such that the gray level is retrieved from the plurality of lookup tables depending on the context of the block being processed. The binary image may be converted into the grayscale image by applying the gray value of one of the plurality of lookup tables that corresponds to the context, such as the frequency components of the binary image. With this configuration, since the size and information quantity of an image can be reduced for transmission, it is possible to prevent deterioration of image quality when the image is restored, while also printing at a higher speed.

Image processing using hybrid lookup table

A halftone screen generating method includes growing dot centers into uniform binary patterns in an input image, calculating a main distance of each dot center, forming a screen filter by using the main distance, and generating the halftone screen by using the screen filter to form a binary image. The halftone screen generating method controls cluster dots to have a predetermined main distance, and improve a printing quality by growing dot centers uniformly.

Method of generating halftone screen and system thereof

Provided are a method and apparatus for determining error diffusion coefficients. The method includes: (a) setting N groups of error diffusion coefficients (N is a positive integer), in which each group includes a plurality of coefficients; (b) binarizing an image having one gray level value using each of the N groups of error diffusion coefficients; (c) detecting N fit values with respect to N binary-coded images using an evaluation function; (d) determining whether the fit values are detected a predetermined number of times; (e) when a detection number of the fit values does not coincide with the predetermined number of times, reproducing the N groups of error diffusion coefficients according to reproduction rates determined by the N fit values; (f) selecting optional error diffusion coefficients in the reproduced N groups of error diffusion coefficients, and substituting portions of data of selected error diffusion coefficients with each other; and (g) determining the N groups of error diffusion coefficients including the error diffusion coefficients containing substituted data as new error diffusion coefficients, and returning to step (b).

Method and apparatus for determining error diffusion coefficients

A threshold modulation method, includes the steps of: a) determining whether an input pixel value is greater than a threshold of a current input pixel from the original digital image; b) determining whether an output image value is a predetermined high level or low level based on the threshold; c) if the input pixel value is greater than the threshold and the output image value is the predetermined high level, modulating the threshold of the adjacent pixel; d) if the input pixel value is greater than the threshold and the output image value is the predetermined low level, modulating the threshold of the adjacent pixel; e) if the input pixel value is not greater than the threshold and the output image value is the predetermined low level, modulating the threshold of the adjacent pixel; and f) if the input pixel value is not greater than the threshold and the output image value is the predetermined high level, modulating the threshold of the adjacent pixel.
