A completely non-halogenated flame retardant polycarbonate compound includes polycarbonate, non-halogenated termini-functional chemical such as vinyl-terminated siloxane and non-halogenated hydride-functional polysiloxane as non-halogenated drip suppressant ingredients which react in the presence of heat to form a drip suppressant adduct, and potassium 3-(phenylsulfonyl)benzenesulfonate as a non-halogenated char former. The compound can achieve a UL 94 rating of V-0 at a thickness of at least 3.2 mm and otherwise achieves no dripping/igniting of the cotton indicator during that test.

Completely non-halogenated flame retardant polycarbonate compounds

Functionalized non-halogenated flame retardants are disclosed having improved hydrolytic stability, represented by decreased conductivity measured in units of ? S/cm when immersed in distilled water and heated to 80 C. The functionalized flame retardant comprises polyphosphonate functionalized by epoxy-functional styrene-acrylic oligomer or aromatic carbodiimide, and optionally antioxidant. Also disclosed are polymer compounds, comprising the functionalized flame retardant described above and a second polymer resin; and flame retardant plastic articles made from such polymer compounds.

Hydrolytically stable functionalized polyphosphonate flame retardant

High temperature nylon compounds that are flame retardant using non-halogenated ingredients are disclosed. Polyphenylene ether, or alternatively the combination of polyphenylene ether and bismaleimides, act as synergists with polyphosphonate to achieve a V-0 rating in a UL 94 test at thicknesses of about 3.18 mm or, preferably, about 1.59 mm.

Flame retardant high temperature nylon

A non-halogenated flame retardant polycarbonate compound is disclosed. The compound comprises a polycarbonate, a non-halogenated, non-migrating, non-plasticizing flame retardant adduct. The compound can achieve a UL 94 rating of V-0 at a thickness of at least 3.2 mm and otherwise achieves no dripping/igniting of the cotton indicator during that test. The adduct is formed from an allyl-functional phenoxyphosphazene and a hydride-functional polysiloxane.

Poly(hexamethylene adipamide), (also referred to as Nylon 6,6) compounds that are flame retardant using non-halogenated ingredients are disclosed. Polyphenylene ether or bismaleimides act as synergists when used in specific amounts in combination with polyphosphonate to achieve a V-1 or V-0 rating in a UL 94 test at thicknesses of about 3.18 mm.

Flame retardant poly(hexamethylene adipamide)

Poly(hexano-6-lactam) (also known as Nylon 6) compounds that are flame retardant using non-halogenated ingredients are disclosed. Polyphenylene ether acts as a synergist when used in specific amounts in combination with polyphosphonate to achieve a V-0 rating in a UL 94 test at thicknesses of about 3.18 mm.
