A solid electrolytic capacitor (A) includes a porous sintered body () of metal particles or conductive ceramic particles, anode wires (A,B) partially inserted in the porous sintered body (), an anode terminal provided by portions of the anode wires (A,B) which project from the porous sintered body (), and a cathode () formed on an obverse surface of the porous sintered body (). The anode terminal includes a first and a second anode terminals (), and circuit current flows from the first anode terminal () toward the second anode terminal () through the porous sintered body (). Therefore, noise cancellation property can be enhanced with respect to a wide frequency band, and large electric power can be supplied with high responsiveness. In a circuit using the solid electrolytic capacitor (A), the space efficiency on a board can be enhanced, and the cost can be reduced.

A method is provided for making a solid electrolytic capacitor comprising a flattened porous body. According to this method, use is made of a pair of pressure blocks and a vertical movement block for engagement with the pair of pressure blocks. The pair of pressure blocks face each other and are horizontally movable. A space is formed between these two pressure blocks for loading powder made of a valve metal. The powder loaded in the space is compressed by the pair of pressure blocks to form a flattened porous body. The compression by the pair of pressure blocks is brought about by a downward motion of the vertical movement block held in engagement with the pair of pressure blocks.

A method for making a solid electrolytic capacitor including a flat porous body is provided. This method utilizes a mold which includes a horizontal surface and four vertical side surfaces. The horizontal surface and the side surfaces define a cavity into which powder made of valve metal is loaded. By compacting the powder in the cavity, a flat porous body having a predetermined thickness is formed. In the compacting, the powder is compressed vertically with the four side surfaces fixed in position.

A solid electrolytic capacitor includes a cathode including a solid electrolytic layer, an anode, and a dielectric layer provided between the cathode and the anode. The anode includes an anode body, an input anode terminal and an output anode terminal. A bypass current path for causing circuit current to detour around the anode body is formed between the input anode terminal and the output anode terminal.
