The disclosure relates to compositions for use before, during, and/or after the hair is subject to a process for altering the color thereof. The compositions comprise a combination of citric acid and at least one urea compound. The compositions provide strength and other benefits to treated hair. The disclosure also relates to methods of using the compositions as well as kits comprising the compositions.

Compositions and methods for treating hair

The present disclosure is drawn to methods for oxidatively bleaching or coloring hair. The methods employ a fortifying composition and a conditioning composition, which are used in various routines. Treating hair according to the routines prevent, minimize, or mitigate damage to the hair caused by the oxidative bleaching or coloring process. The fortifying composition includes: (a) citric acid, a salt thereof, or a combination thereof; (b) cyclodextrin, a salt thereof, or a combination thereof; (c) one or more polyols; and (d) water. The conditioning composition includes: (a) one or more cationic surfactants; (b) one or more non-silicone fatty compounds; (c) one or more silicone oils; and (d) and water. The methods strengthen the hair, improve curl retention of the hair, prevent frizz of the hair, and remediate damage to the hair caused by chemical bleaching or coloring of the hair.

Methods for oxidatively bleaching or coloring hair without damaging the hair

Cosmetic compositions, kits thereof, and methods of making and using such cosmetic compositions. The cosmetic compositions typically include about 20 to about 95 wt. % of a polyol; about 5 to about 70 wt. % of one or more monoalcohols having from 2 to 6 carbon atoms; about 0.1 to about 10 wt. % of one or more cationic surfactants; about 0.1 to about 20 wt. % of one or more fatty compounds; and about 1 to about 15 wt. % of a combination of a urea compound and citric acid, wherein all weight percentages are based on the total weight of the cosmetic composition. The cosmetic compositions have a weight ratio of polyol to monoalcohol(s) that is from 20:1 to 1:20. Additionally, the cosmetic compositions typically have a mole ratio of citric acid to urea compound of that is about 10:0.5 to about 0.5:10.

Cosmetic compositions, kits thereof, and methods of making and using such cosmetic compositions. The cosmetic compositions comprising about 0.1 to about 25 wt. % of citric acid, about 0.2 to about 40 wt. % of one or more urea compound, and about 20 wt. % or more water wherein all weight percentages are based on the total weight of the cosmetic composition. Additionally, the cosmetic compositions are typically formulated to have a molar ratio of the citric acid of (a) to the urea compound of (b) is 1 or less.
