A rechargeable battery according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes: an electrode assembly including a first electrode, a separator, and a second electrode; a case that accommodates the electrode assembly, and of which one side through which the electrode assembly is inserted is opened; a cap assembly provided in the opening of the case by being fixed thereto; a vent hole that is formed in a bottom plate of the case, and of which side walls are multi-stepped; and a vent member provided in the vent, wherein a depth of the vent is greater than a thickness of the bottom plate.

Rechargeable battery

A rechargeable battery according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention includes: an electrode assembly including uncoated region tabs that protrude toward one side of a coated portion; a case having a first length set in a first direction to receive the electrode assembly; a cap plate having a second length set in a second direction that crosses the first direction and a third length that is shorter than the first length and set in a third direction that crosses the second direction so as to be coupled corresponding to an opening of the case; an electrode terminal that is provided in a terminal hole of the cap plate; and a current collecting member that is disposed between the cap plate and the electrode assembly to connect the electrode terminal and the uncoated region tabs, and includes a fuse in a corresponding region of the electrode terminal, facing in the first direction.

A secondary battery module includes a plurality of secondary battery units each including at least one secondary battery, each secondary battery including an electrode assembly, a case accommodating the electrode assembly, and first and second electrode terminals electrically connected to the electrode assembly, wherein for at least the first secondary battery unit of the plurality of secondary battery units, each of the corresponding at least one secondary batteries further includes a short-circuit member electrically connected to the corresponding first electrode terminal and protruding to the outside of the case upon the internal pressure of the case reaching a high-pressure condition; at least one fuse connecting at least two of the plurality of secondary battery units to one another in series; and a short circuit connection member having a first side facing each of the short-circuit members of the at least one secondary battery of the first of the plurality of secondary battery units and a second side electrically connected to a second electrode terminal of a secondary batter of another of the plurality of secondary battery units.

A rechargeable battery, which can improve safety by maintaining a short-circuit state when the internal pressure of the rechargeable battery exceeds a critical pressure due to overcharge (or any other reason). In one embodiment, the rechargeable battery includes an electrode assembly, a case accommodating the electrode assembly, a cap assembly sealing the case and including a cap plate, and a short-circuit member including a first short-circuit plate coupled to the cap plate and a second short-circuit plate on a surface of the first short-circuit plate facing toward the electrode assembly and coupled to the cap plate.

A secondary battery includes: a case; an electrode assembly housed in the case and including a first electrode, a second electrode, and a separator between the first electrode and the second electrode, the first electrode having a coating portion coated with a first active material and a non-coating portion absent the first active material; and a collector plate including first and second collector plates enmeshed together with the non-coating portion therebetween.

A secondary battery includes first and second collecting plates branching out from an electrode terminal, and first and second electrode assemblies rolled up in a jelly-roll type unit, the first electrode assembly having a first non-coating portion adhered to the first collecting plate, the second electrode assembly having a second non-coating portion adhered to the second collecting plate, and the first and second collecting plates being on facing surfaces of respective first and second non-coating portions. The first non-coating portion is spaced apart from a roll center of the first electrode assembly by a first predetermined distance along a direction directed away from the second non-coating portion, and the second non-coating portion is spaced apart from a roll center of the second electrode assembly by a second predetermined distance along a direction directed away from the first non-coating portion.
