In aspects of managing antenna module heat and RF emissions, an antenna module includes antenna elements that emit radio frequency (RF) signals for wireless data communication. The antenna module also includes an integrated heat sink to dissipate heat generated by an amplifier on the antenna module, where the heat sink is formed as a metallic component having a surface approximately coplanar with the antenna elements. The antenna module also includes one or more grooves that are formed into the surface of the heat sink, where the one or more grooves are effective to allow the RF signals being emitted from the antenna elements without deformation of a radiation pattern of the RF signals.

Managing antenna module heat and RF emissions

Techniques described herein provide slot antenna arrays for a millimeter-wave communication system. One or more implementations form a slot antenna array by creating multiple slot antenna out of a metal band that surrounds an outer edge of a housing structure. Various implementations form the slot antenna array to support millimeter waveforms associated with the millimeter-wave communication system. To form the antenna array, one or more implementations capacitively couple a respective signal feed to each respective slot antenna using a stripline connected to an inner edge of the metal band, where the stripline provides isolation between the antenna array and hardware components included in the housing structure. In response to coupling the signal feeds to the slot antenna, various implementations transmit a beam-formed wireless signal associated with the millimeter-wave communication system to enable successful data exchanges.

Slot antenna arrays for millimeter-wave communication systems

An antenna subsystem of a communication device has an open cavity including an inner opening and lateral and outer sides that define a cavity. The cavity is sized less than required for cavity mode resonance at a millimeter-wave operating frequency. A millimeter-wave antenna element placed at the inner opening of the hollowed section cavity excites evanescent electromagnetic fields in the cavity. A slot antenna is formed in a metallic layer of the outer side of the cavity. A metallic sectioned proximity post has a first section positioned adjacent to and spaced apart from the millimeter-wave antenna element to couple to, and conduct, the evanescent electromagnetic field. The metallic proximity post has a second section positioned adjacent to and spaced apart from the slot antenna to couple at the millimeter-wave operating frequency, enabling re-radiation by the slot antenna.

Coupling and re-radiating system for millimeter-wave antenna

A first electronic device uses a first wireless link to connect wirelessly to an audio source device, and a second wireless link to connect to a second electronic device. In some cases, the first electronic device and the second electronic device can be worn by, or mounted to, a user. Upon receiving audio from the audio source device, the first electronic device extracts stereo channels from the received audio, and transmits at least one of the channels to the second electronic device. In some embodiments, an antenna of the first electronic device and an antenna of the second electronic device create a coaxial antenna pair. Alternately or additionally, each antenna, when worn by or mounted to a user, propagates an electric field in a direction generally normal to the user's head. In turn, this generates a creeping wave that travels along a surface, such as the surface of the user's head.
