This invention relates to an imaging apparatus and an imaging method for supplying an optimum amount of image data to another apparatus. When a PDAhas a maximum transfer rate of 1.5 Mbps, a mobile phonedetermines that a maximum speed of communication with the PDAis low, reduces accordingly the amount of moving image data captured by a CCD of the mobile phone, and supplies the captured moving image data to the PDA. The PDAdisplays a low-quality moving imageon its display unit. When the PDAhas a maximum transfer rate of 480 Mbps, the CPU of the mobile phone leaves unchanged the amount of moving picture data captured by the CCD and supplies the captured moving image data to the PDA. The PDAthen displays a high-quality moving imageon the display unit. This invention applies advantageously to digital cameras.

Imaging apparatus and imaging method

An imaging apparatus and an imaging method supply an optimum amount of image data to another apparatus. When a PDA has a maximum transfer rate of 1.5 Mbps, a mobile phone determines that the maximum speed of communication with the PDA is low, reduces the amount of moving image data captured by a CCD of the mobile phone accordingly, and supplies the captured moving image data to the PDA. The PDA therefore displays a low-quality moving image on its display unit. When the PDA has a maximum transfer rate of 480 Mbps, the CPU of the mobile phone leaves unchanged the amount of moving picture data captured by the CCD and supplies the captured moving image data to the PDA. The PDA then displays a high-quality moving image on its display unit. The foregoing may be advantageously applied to digital cameras.

A digital still camera has a cylindrical image pick up portion with a lens, a strobe unit, and a display. The image pick up unit is cylindrical and is rotatably held at each end, so that the lens and strobe unit move in concert. The image pick up unit can be rotated to face the rear of the camera, where the display is located, so that the user can do self-images.

A digital still camera includes a vibration detector for detecting vibrations. In accordance with certain conditions, a control unit controls finalization (session closing) which enables a CD-ROM drive to read data recorded on a recording medium. The control of session closing includes starting session closing after a predetermined period of time elapses since the selection of the execution of session closing. The countdown id displayed to indicate the time remaining before the start of session closing. After the countdown is completed, or when the vibration detector detects vibrations during the countdown until the start of session closing, session closing is not started.

The present invention is directed to a data recording method of notifying degree of deterioration of recording medium thus to perform stable recording operation. Even in the case where uncorrectable address read error does not exist, deterioration information is displayed in accordance with generated and stored deterioration information. Whether or not address read error of ATIP is detected over successive two frames or more, or whether or not four errors or more are detected on the average at 75 frames is discriminated. In the case where error detecting state is adapted to affirmative discrimination condition, warning is displayed. In the case where 200 errors or more detected from deterioration information generated in processing with respect to random missing with respect to written data exist on the average with respect to successive 750 frames, or in the case where one error or more detected in processing with respect to random missing exist, disc deterioration warning display is similarly performed.

Data recording/reproduction device, data recording/reproduction method, and digital camera

An optical recording apparatus includes a CD-R drive which writes data to a CD-R. A close session processor performs session closing in order to enable a CD-ROM drive, which is only capable of reading data, to read information written to the CD-R. An LCD panel displays information concerning session closing performed by the close session processor. A control unit causes the LCD panel to display the information concerning session closing based on whether session closing has been performed by the close session processor.

Optical recording apparatus and method for displaying residual space on optical recording medium

A video still camera with a strobe allows angle or high angle photographing to be carried out without changing an angle of user's hand holding a camera body. A recess portion is formed in a tap surface portion of an outermost housing of a camera body which has a built-in recording/reproducing unit. A photographing unit having a lens unit and a strobe unit which are arranged in a transverse direction with a predetermined separation, is fitted into the recess portion and is rotatable in an up-and-down direction, and is pivoted about openings on opposite sides of the recessed portion. Electrical connections of the lens unit and the strobe unit for connection with the camera body side are introduced through the opening, and connected to the recording/reproducing unit.

An image display apparatus includes an automatic pedestal processing circuit for detecting the minimum signal level of the input video signal for controlling the signal level of the video signal on the basis of the results of the detection. A control section is provided for activating the automatic pedestal processing circuit during the effective display period for the input video signals to prevent malfunction of the automatic pedestal processing section and to display an image with superior picture quality.
