A method for an artificial neural network includes receiving an input. A quantization threshold is determined based on the input, or a characteristic or type of the input. Neural network values, such as weights or activations, of one or more layers of the artificial neural network are quantized according to the quantization threshold. The artificial neural network generates an output based on the quantized neural network values.

The access point may perform one or more mobility measurements on a communication medium and monitor for the one or more autonomous handover triggering events based on the one or more mobility measurements. The access terminal may perform an autonomous handover from a source access point to a target access point based on the monitoring.

An access point may transmit and an access terminal may receive an Uplink Control Information (UCI) payload indicator over a downlink channel instructing an access terminal to configure a UCI payload. Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described for monitoring interference level to selectively control usage of a contention-based protocol. In an example, a wireless device may transmit, while operating in a non-contention-based mode for a wireless link with a second wireless device, a first beamformed data transmission to the second wireless device over a shared channel. The wireless device may determine that an interference level condition is satisfied for the shared channel and transition from operating in the non-contention-based mode to operating in a contention-based mode for the wireless link based at least in part on the interference level condition being satisfied. The wireless device may perform a contention-based protocol, while operating in the contention-based mode for the wireless link with the second wireless device, prior to transmission of a second beamformed data transmission to the second wireless device over the shared channel.

Monitoring interference level to selectively control usage of a contention-based protocol

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) and a base station operating in unlicensed spectrum may temporarily increase a paging opportunity window (POW) size, or reduce a time between POWs, in order to meet performance metrics or account for time periods when a base station is unable to win access to the wireless medium during a POW. In some cases, a UE may identify a failed listen-before-talk procedure and autonomously update the POW size. In other examples, a base station may initiate a change in POW size or increase a number of paging opportunities in order to meet achieve one or more key performance indicators (KPIs). After a predetermined period, or after a triggering condition is no longer present, the UE and the base station may reset the POW size or the number of paging opportunities to a nominal amount to conserve power.

Energy-efficient paging in wireless networks

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station may configure bursts of synchronization signal (SS) blocks for discovery reference signal (DRS) transmission. The base station may transmit an SS block set in an SS burst according to a beam sweep pattern, which may be repeated for a subsequent SS block set. The base station may configure a number of SS block sets in each SS burst and transmit each SS block in an SS block set using a different beam. Each SS burst may be transmitted according to a different beam sweep pattern and the base station may repeat transmission of SS bursts according to a DRS repetition periodicity. A user equipment (UE) may sweep through antenna sub-arrays during reception of an SS burst to determine a suitable sub-array for communication.

Variable length reference signaling for fast acquisition in shared spectrum

Techniques for access terminal radio link monitoring on a shared communication medium are disclosed. In an aspect, an access terminal detects a missed reference signal event associated with a radio link established on the shared communication medium, wherein detecting the missed reference signal event comprises determining that the access terminal did not detect a reference signal for measuring a quality of the radio link transmitted during a reference signal configuration window, assigns an error metric to the missed reference signal event based on reference signal monitoring capabilities of the access terminal, and triggers a radio link failure based on the assigned error metric. In an aspect, the missed reference signal event may be a missed Discovery Reference Signaling (DRS) event, the error metric may be a Block Error Rate (BLER) weight, and the reference signal for measuring the quality of the radio link comprises a Cell-specific Reference Signal (CRS).

Techniques for mobility-aware contention procedures on a shared communication medium are disclosed. A connection failure associated with mobility between a source access point and a target access point sharing a communication medium may be detected. Based on the detected connection failure, a backoff threshold associated with contention-based access to the communication medium may be adapted. Contention for access to the communication medium may then proceed in accordance with the adapted backoff threshold.

Mobility-aware contention procedures on a shared communication medium

A method for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) includes receiving timing information and a time-frequency resource configuration for an uplink subframe; selecting at least a first set of time-frequency resources of the uplink subframe on which to transmit; and transmitting a grantless transmission on at least the first set of time-frequency resources. The time-frequency resource configuration identifies a correspondence between at least one receive beam in a set of one or more receive beams and at least one set of time-frequency resources in one or more sets of time-frequency resources of the uplink subframe. The first set of time-frequency resources is selected based at least in part on a transmit beam of the UE, a correspondence of the transmit beam to a receive beam in the set of one or more receive beams, and a correspondence of the receive beam to the selected first set of time-frequency resources.
