Methods and apparatus for sharing digital-to-analog (DAC) converters in a reconfigurable DAC circuit to support two or more transmit chains of a wireless transmitter configured for different radio access technologies (RATs) and/or different transmitter architectures. One example DAC circuit generally includes at least four DACs and a plurality of switches coupled to outputs of the at least four DACs such that the DAC circuit is configured as a multi-channel DAC circuit with at least four channels for a first set of one or more frequency bands and as an interleaved DAC circuit with at least two channels for a second set of one or more frequency bands different from the first set of frequency bands.

Reconfigurable transmit digital-to-analog converter (DAC) circuit

A peak detector for a power amplifier is provided that includes a threshold voltage detector configured to pulse a detection current in response to an amplified output signal from the amplifier exceeding a peak threshold. A plurality of such peak detectors may be integrated with a corresponding plurality of power amplifiers in a transmitter. Should any peak detector assert an alarm signal or more than a threshold number of alarm signals during a given period, a controller reduces a gain for the plurality of power amplifiers.

In certain aspects, a method is provided for measuring power using a resistive element coupled between a power amplifier and an antenna. The method includes squaring a voltage from a first terminal of the resistive element to obtain a first signal, squaring a voltage from a second terminal of the resistive element to obtain a second signal, and generating a measurement signal based on a difference between the first signal and the second signal. In some implementations, the resistive element is implemented with a power switch.

A filter circuit includes a matching network having resistive and capacitive elements, and a transformer in the matching network. The transformer includes a primary side and a secondary side, and has at least one interwinding capacitance coupled from an input on the primary side to a non-inverting output on the secondary side.

The integrated circuit includes a directional coupler that has an input port, a through port, a coupled port, and an isolation port. A system for power amplifier control includes a processor, a memory in communication with the processor, wherein the processor and the memory are configured to simultaneously provide input signal strength of each of a plurality of power amplifiers in a millimeter wave (mmW) phased array system, determine an average input signal strength of the plurality of power amplifiers based on the provided input signal strengths using an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), determine a voltage headroom for the plurality of power amplifiers based on the determined average input signal strength, estimate a power backoff value based on the voltage headroom, and determine a gain control value based on the estimated power backoff value.

In certain aspects, an apparatus includes a power detector coupled between a power amplifier and an antenna, and a voltage detector coupled between the power amplifier and the antenna. The apparatus also includes a phase shifter coupled to the power detector, and a load measurement circuit coupled to the power detector, the voltage detector, and the phase shifter.

In example implementations, an apparatus includes an antenna element of an antenna array and a power amplification system.
