Autofocus (AF) optical arrangements and assemblies including a voice coil motor (VCM) are disclosed. An example optical assembly for a focusing lens includes: a front lens group disposed along an optical axis configured to receive light from the object of interest and configured to correct for aberrations of a first image projected by the front lens group; an aperture disposed along an optical axis configured to receive light from the front lens group therethrough along the optical axis; a moveable focus lens to receive light through the aperture; a VCM configured to move the focus lens to focus the optical assembly; and a back lens group disposed along the optical axis configured to receive light from the focus lens and further configured to correct for field curvature.

Autofocus optical arrangements and assemblies including voice coil motors

An imaging engine including a telephoto lens for compact long range barcode readers is disclosed herein. An example imaging engine includes an imaging sensor and a telephoto lens assembly. The example telephoto lens assembly includes a first lens, disposed along an optical axis; a second lens, disposed along the optical axis to correct for pupil aberrations of the image projected after a fourth lens onto the imaging sensor; a third lens, disposed along the optical axis to correct for chromatic aberration of the image projected after the fourth lens onto the imaging sensor; and the fourth lens, disposed along the optical axis to correct for optical field curvature of the image projected after the fourth lens onto the imaging sensor.

Telephoto lens for compact long range barcode reader

A scan engine for capturing at least one image of an object appearing in an imaging field of view (FOV) is provided that includes an imaging system, illumination system, aiming system, and a first and second chassis. The imaging system includes a lens holder and at least one lens disposed within the lens holder and both a far imaging system and a near imaging system for capturing images across multiple fields of view at different distances. The illumination system and aiming system are physically positioned to provide illumination of a target in the near and/or far fields of view, and provide an aiming pattern to the near and/or far fields of view.

An aiming system for use in a small height scan engine chassis. The aiming system includes a beam source assembly generating an input beam along a central axis and a collimator assembly having a lens group that defines a tilt axis having a tilt angle, α, relative to the central axis, to deflect the input beam from the central axis onto the tilt axis. The collimator assembly further includes a recess within which a diffractive optical element is sealably mounted to convert the deflected input beam into an aiming pattern at a focal distance of the lens group.

The system includes an illumination field source configured to provide illumination along a illumination optical axis to (i) illuminate a target and (ii) indicate a near field of view of the imaging system and a far field aiming source configured to provide a radiation pattern along an aiming optical axis to indicate a far field of view of the imaging system. Near field optics are configured to receive the first illumination from the near field illumination source and to form the first illumination to provide illumination to, and indicate to a user or machine vision system, the near field of view of the imaging system, and far field optics are configured to receive radiation from the aiming source and provide the radiation pattern to the far field to indicate the far field of view of the imaging system.

An imaging assembly for capturing at least one object appearing in a field of view (FOV) is provided that includes an image capturing system, a controller operatively coupled to the image capturing system to control operation thereof, and a processor operatively coupled to the controller. The image capturing system is adapted to capture an image having at least one sub-frame and is further adapted to obtain distance information of the object. The processor analyzes the image to determine a brightness value of at least a portion of the image and analyzes the distance information of the object to determine a distance value from the imaging assembly to the object. The processor further determines an illumination characteristic based on the brightness value and the distance value.

Systems and approaches for reducing power consumption in industrial digital barcode scanners

A modular off-platter detection assembly for use with a barcode reader includes a housing, a first light source, a first light sensor, and a controller operatively coupled to the first light source and the first light sensor. The housing is configured to be removably mounted to the barcode reader, a frame supporting the barcode reader, or the workstation. The first light source is positioned within the housing and emits a first light along a first lateral edge of a weigh platter. The first light sensor is positioned within the housing, has a first field-of-view along the first lateral edge, and is configured to detect at least a portion of the first light reflected towards the housing. The controller is configured to provide a first alert in response to receipt of a first value from the first light sensor indicating there is an object extending across the first lateral edge.

Modular off-platter detection assembly for use with barcode readers

At least some embodiments of the present invention are directed toward optical arrangements for use in providing illumination light emitted by a barcode reader. In some embodiments, the arrangement includes an illumination source, a lens positioned within the path of the illumination light emitted by the illumination source where the lens is operable to collimate the light and redirect its central axis, and a window positioned within the path of the redirected and collimated light where the window is operable to alter the illumination light such that the resulting illumination light beam has a height-to-width ratio of less than 8 to 25.

Illumination assemblies for use in barcode readers and devices and methods associated therewith

A method and apparatus for directing an aim light through a window of an image reader. The window has a cylindrically curved section. The aim light impinges on a portion of the cylindrically curved section of the window prior to partially passing through the window. A first amount of the aim light is passed through the window, and a second amount of the aim light is reflected into the cavity resulting in reflected aim light. The reflected aim light is directed away from the imaging assembly such that no or substantially no reflected aim light impinges on the imager of the imaging assembly.

Apparatus and method for reducing the effect of aim light aberrations in a barcode reader

Near and far imagers image close-in and far-out targets over relatively wider and relatively narrower imaging fields of view, respectively. An aiming assembly directs to a target a visible aiming light pattern having an aiming light spot and a pair of collinear aiming light lines. The aiming light spot is substantially centered between the aiming light lines. A controller determines a distance to the target based on a position of the aiming light spot in the imaging field of view of a default one of the imagers, selects at least one of the imagers based on the determined distance, and enables both the close-in and the far-out targets to be positioned substantially entirely within the respective imaging field of view of the selected imager.

Imaging module and reader for, and method of, reading targets by image capture over a range of working distances with multi-functional aiming light pattern

In an embodiment, the present invention is an imaging engine including: a first imaging assembly having a first FOV; a second imaging assembly having a second FOV; and an aiming assembly configured to emit an aiming light pattern, the aiming light pattern including a first portion and a second portion, the first portion configured to correlate with the first FOV, the second portion configured to correlate with the second FOV, wherein the aiming light pattern is configured such that a combined power of any part of the aiming light pattern encompassed by a 7 mrad cone, as measured from the aiming assembly, is less than or equal to 1 mW, and the total combined power of the entire aiming light pattern is greater than 1 mW.
