A reagent is provided for removing mercury (Hg). The reagent contains metal carbonates compound with layers structure. The contents of metals of reagent can be adjusted using this method. The reagent can be manufactured with kilogram grade per batch. The common ions, like Mg, Ca, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, etc., can be contained in the reagent. The manufacture method provides a low-cost way for the Hg sorbent and the content ratio of metal oxides can be higher than 50 wt %. The manufacture is operated at a temperature more than 200&#xb0; C. and can be integrated with existing technology such as denitration catalysts in industry for removing Hg. In another word, the present invention fabricates a mercury-removing reagent of metal-M/aluminum carbonates (M-Al&#x2014;CO), which can be potentially combined with commercially selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalysts for developing medium-high-temperature mercury-removing reagent with mercury-removing efficiency further enhanced.

Method of fabricating mercury-removing reagent having layers of carbonates

A sorbent for capturing COis fabricated. The sorbent is pelletized and used under a medium or high temperature. The sorbent is mainly made of aluminum calcium carbonate (Ca&#x2014;Al&#x2014;CO). The present invention has a controllable ratio for mixing Ca&#x2014;Al&#x2014;COwith a release agent (magnesium stearate, MgSt) and a binder (activated carbon, cement or bentonite). The sorbent has a good performance for anti-degradation under a high temperature with 100% of CO. During 10 loops of use, 43.3&#x2dc;47.5% of COis captured with an initial amount up to 10 milli-moles per gram (mmol/g) and a stability ratio up to 91.2% maintained.

An engineered process of manufacturing a carbon capturing agent calcium aluminum carbonate Ca&#x2014;Al&#x2014;COincludes steps of mixing, solid-liquid separation, drying and extrusion, crushing and conveying, and calcined molding. The acid bath of Caand Alis mixed with the alkaline bath of NaCOand NaOH while stirring to form slurry which are then subject to solid-liquid separation to obtain a filtrated cake. The filtrated cake is place into a drying and extrusion device to obtain granular material. The granular material is placed in a conveying and crushing equipment to obtain a powder material. The powder material is calcined at furnace for forming a Ca&#x2014;Al&#x2014;CO, which is nano-layered composite with high porosity. Thereby, the preparation of a solid sorbent can be scale up under systematically controlled with yield of at least batches of kilograms used in medium-high temperature (400&#x2dc;800&#xb0; C.) COcapture.

A novel method for making a COcapture agent is provided. The capture agent is made of a calcium/iron salt. The capture agent is prevented from degradation at high temperature. The capture agent is fit to be used at various temperatures in high COdensities for achieving high COcapture capacity, environmental protection and low power consumption.

A dry material is synthesized by alkali metal (Li, Na and K) promoted calcium aluminate carbonates to obtain a COsorbent used at a temperature higher than 600 Celsius degrees (&#xb0; C.). The key composition of the sorbents is 52&#x2dc;69% of CaO, which is beneficial to capture COat 400&#x2dc;800&#xb0; C. A breakthrough result is achieved by using this sintering-resistant sorbent, which includes the features of 50% initial carbonation capacity and 20 folds COcapturing performance maintained after 40&#x2dc;60 hours. Besides, alkali bearing material provides good velocity in COcapturing/releasing cycles; for example, by using Li and K series sorbents, 40 hours is required for 40 cycles only.

Method of fabricating medium-high temperature CO2 sorbents made of alkali metal promoted calcium aluminate carbonates

A technique of fabricating a medium-high temperature COsorbent of layered nano-carbonate is provided. A COsorbent is fabricated. The sorbent captures COat a medium-high temperature above 600&#xb0; C. Calcium acetate is introduced for making a nano-scale layered double hydroxide (LDH). The layered structure is used for templated synthesis. The sorbent has an initial conversion rate above 90%; and the conversion rate remains the same even after 100 times of carbonation/de-carbonation cycles.

A material is fabricated for capturing COat mid-high temperature. The material is a layered material containing Ca, Al carbonates. A higher ratio of Ca to Al helps capturing CO. The temperature for capturing COis around 600&#xb0; C. The material can even release COat a high temperature. Thus, the material can process looping cycles of carbonation and decarbonization at a COcarbonation scale of 45% gCO/g.
