A wireless intraocular pressure monitoring device includes reflecting and detecting modules. The reflecting module includes a soft contact lens having a curvature corresponding to that of a cornea while worn. A metal layer is embedded in and deformable with the soft contact lens. The detecting module includes two waveguides, an oscillator, and a converting unit. The oscillator is operable to generate oscillation signals having a frequency dependent on an equivalent impedance of the waveguides such that the equivalent impedance corresponds to intraocular pressure. The converting unit is operable for receiving and converting the oscillation signals into an output signal corresponding to the intraocular pressure.

Wireless intraocular pressure monitoring device, and detecting module thereof

A full range of alphanumeric characters is obtained with two different modes upon a twelve key telephone keypad. Numerics are obtained with single keystrokes in one mode and English alphabetics obtained with single and paired keystrokes in another mode. Memory is provided in which a plurality of telephone numbers can be stored, organized, identified and retrieved by a combination of alphanumeric characters including names and abbreviations. A visual display facilitates storing and retrieval of any telephone number. Alphanumeric messages can be transmitted to, and received from, other remote telephonic devices. Any language is encompassed and use of two languages on one keypad is facilitated. Characters in one language such as English are obtained as above in one mode and characters of another language possessing considerably more characters, e.g. Chinese or Japanese, are obtained in another mode with use of sequential key pairs in which the order of the sequence determines which of two different characters is obtained. Both sets of alphabetic characters are printed upon the keypad. Single and dual keystrokes are differentiated with an interval threshold which can utilize a threshold algorithm for customized interval threshold settings.

Alphabetic telephone

A keyboard having fewer keys than the characters available utilizes linked sequences of keystrokes in generation of some characters. Other characters may be produced with one keystroke. The difference between linked keystrokes and independent keystrokes both made in sequence is determined by either the length of the interval between keystrokes or use of a delimiting key. A threshold level for the interval between keystrokes which decides whether two sequential keystrokes are linked or not may be set by the user or may be automatically determined with the use of an adaptive predictive algorithm. It is generally suggested that pairs of keys be linked, particularly adjacent pairs of keys in a fixed configuration, and that the characters generated by either a single keystroke of a given key or the characters generated by two linked keystrokes be represented upon the keyboard in a disposition which facilitates intuitive learning of the keyboard. The characters 'A' and 'B' might both be represented between the keys identified as &lsquo;1&rsquo; and &lsquo;2&rsquo; with the &lsquo;A&rsquo; adjacent the &lsquo;1&rsquo; and the &lsquo;B&rsquo; adjacent the &lsquo;2&rsquo; connoting that the linked keystrokes generate the character &lsquo;A&rsquo;, the linked keystrokes generate the character &lsquo;B&rsquo; and independent keystrokes and each generate the characters &lsquo;1&rsquo; and &lsquo;2&rsquo; respectively. The keys may be identified and arranged in a fixed configuration in any manner desired. A hexagonal pattern with keys identified by a simplified Morse code using &middot;, -, &middot;&middot;, --, &middot;-, and -&middot; is specifically suggested for use by those having a physical disability.

Sequential stroke keyboard

A solar panel is operably connected to a power capacitor and associated circuitry which includes at least one diode for ensuring correct current flow direction. The power capacitor is inside a cartridge which is has exterior electrical contacts and overall dimensions enabling it to fit into the space intended for and replace at least one conventional battery. The exterior contacts, in conjunction with the power capacitor and associated electrical circuitry, enable provision of direct current (DC) electrical power of appropriate voltage and amperage to various electronic devices: cellular telephones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), compact disc (CD) and digital video disc (DVD) players, infrared and radio remote controllers, and other low power consumption devices including radios, alarms and calculators, etc.

Solar cell battery replacement unit

An infrared remote controller is provided with power by a capacitor supplied by an electrical power supply preferably including a photovoltaic panel which converts light into electricity. A main switch closes the circuit between the power capacitor and the controller. An interface circuit having at least one diode, but preferably at least two in parallel to minimize resistance, connects the power supply to the capacitor. This interface circuit may also include a power level testing circuit, preferably one utilizing a light emitting diode (LED). A rechargeable battery may be included in the power source for greater power reserve. A voltage reference or voltage regulator is recommended between the capacitor and the infrared remote controller. The sizing of the capacitor in accordance with the consumption requirements of an infrared remote controller and the operating voltage enables a very simple circuit overall. Comparatively quick recovery times between uses of the remote controller are enabled by the capacitor. The combination of the capacitor powered infrared remote controller and the reserve power provided by a rechargeable cell minimizes both the size of the photovoltaic panel and the size of the device overall.
