Various embodiments provide a powered fastener driving tool including a spring/gas chamber configured to contain pressurized gas that causes a piston to compress a fuel/gas mixture, the mixture combusted to provide necessary levels of power for driving fasteners while using less fuel. One embodiment includes: a housing; a spring/gas chamber in the housing configured to contain pressurized gas; a dual compression/combustion chamber in the housing configured to contain a fuel/gas mixture; a gas communication channel in the housing fluidly connecting the spring/gas chamber and the dual compression/combustion chamber; a movable piston in the housing such that pressurized gas in the spring/gas chamber causes the piston to move in the housing to compress the fuel/gas mixture in the dual compression/combustion chamber; and a driving blade connected to the piston such that combustion of the compressed fuel/gas mixture causes the piston to move in the housing to cause the driving blade to drive a fastener.

The present disclosure provides various embodiments of a fastener-driving tool that includes a battery-charged supercapacitor as a power source. The fastener-driving tool includes first and second spaced-apart, conductive rails and a partially conductive piston slidably mounted on the rails. The rails and the piston are electrically connected to one another. The supercapacitor is electrically connected to the first rail. When the supercapacitor discharges electrical current, the electrical current flows from the supercapacitor, into the first rail, through the piston into the second rail, and from the second rail. The electrical current induces magnetic fields in the rails and the piston, and the combination of the electrical current and the magnetic fields induce a Lorentz force that acts on the piston to move the piston toward a nosepiece to drive a fastener.

A fuel cell system and method are provided. One or more surfactants are used as a hydrogen carrier and/or coolant for hydrogen fueled proton exchange membrane fuel cells. The surfactant can work as a bubbler to trap hydrogen as fine bubbles with cooling water to feed the fuel cell anode. The water acts as humidification supplier and coolant.

In certain embodiments, the tool includes a housing containing a combustion chamber, a removable fuel container configured to communicate fuel into the combustion chamber, a removable oxidizer container configured to communicate an oxidizer into the combustion chamber, a piston and a fastener driving blade connected to the piston and configured to engage and drive fasteners upon the fuel and the oxidizer chemically reacting in the combustion chamber. In certain embodiments, the auto ignition assembly includes a catalyst in the combustion chamber for causing, enhancing, or accelerating the reaction between the fuel and the oxidizer.
