A hydraulic control system for a motor vehicle transmission includes a pressure regulation subsystem in fluid communication with a pump for providing pressurized hydraulic fluid. A manual valve assembly is in direct fluid communication with the pressure regulation subsystem, and is moveable by an operator of the motor vehicle between at least park, neutral, drive, and reverse positions. A default disable valve assembly is in direct fluid communication with the manual valve assembly, a default disable solenoid, and a default select valve assembly. The manual valve assembly is in direct fluid communication with the default disable valve assembly which is in direct fluid communication with the default disable solenoid and the default select valve assembly. The default disable solenoid enables the default disable valve assembly to enable three default modes of operation and the default select valve assembly selects between two of the three default modes of operation.

Hydraulic control system for an automatic transmission

A hydraulic control system for a multiple speed motor vehicle automatic transmission having electronic transmission range selection (ETRS) provides both a forward gear ratio and Park options during default conditions where the transmission loses electronic control when the ETRS system is in a drive mode. The hydraulic control system includes a two position default disable solenoid valve, an ETRS valve, a park servo, position sensors, a default disable valve, a drive select valve, various orifices and blow-off valves as well as main and auxiliary pumps, a torque converter, a torque converter regulator and control valve and a plurality of linear force solenoid valves and clutch regulation valves which control a like plurality of clutch and brake actuators.

A target module determines a target ratio between a speed of an input shaft and a speed of an output shaft of a continuously variable transmission (CVT) based on an accelerator pedal position. A maximum rate of change (ROC) module determines a maximum ROC of the target ratio. A switching valve control module, based on a comparison of the maximum ROC and a ROC of the target ratio, selectively actuates a switching valve of the CVT one of (i) from a closed position to an open position and (ii) from the open position to the closed position. The switching valve prevents transmission fluid flow through a flow path between a transmission fluid pump and a pressure regulator valve of the CVT when the switching valve is in the closed position. The switching valve allows transmission fluid flow through the flow path when the switching valve is in the open position.

Pump switching control systems and methods for continuously variable transmissions

A hydraulic control system for a motor vehicle transmission includes a pressure regulation subsystem and a manual valve assembly in fluid communication with the pressure regulation subsystem. The manual valve assembly is moveable between at least park, neutral, drive, and reverse positions. A default disable valve assembly is in fluid communication with the manual valve assembly, a default disable solenoid valve assembly, and a default select valve assembly. A one-way valve may be provided to permit hydraulic fluid to flow to a second-priority hydraulic circuit when in a default mode of operation. A combined main regulation and priority valve may be provided to pressurize line pressure as a first priority, pressurize the second-priority hydraulic circuit as a second priority, and to feed excess pressure to a decrease-pressure circuit as a third priority.

A hydraulic fluid filler for a motor vehicle transmission includes a set of holes through which respective springs of a spring pack extend. The filler is generally positioned adjacent to a single retainer ring or between two retainer rings associated with the spring pack. In some implementations, the filler floats between the two retainer rings, while, in other implementations, the filler is securely attached to one or both of the retainer rings. The filler reduces the volume of one of two cavities, chambers, or cylinders positioned on opposite sides of a piston that selectively interacts with a clutch assembly to engage or disengage the clutch assembly. Reducing the volume of one of the cavities, chambers or cylinders effectively reduces the time period the spring pack is then able to apply a restoring force to the piston.

A method of controlling a hydraulic control system for a dual clutch transmission includes controlling a plurality of pressure and flow control devices in fluid communication with a plurality of clutch actuators and with a plurality of synchronizer actuators. The clutch actuators are operable to actuate a plurality of torque transmitting devices and the synchronizer actuators are operable to actuate a plurality of synchronizer assemblies. Selective activation of combinations of the pressure control solenoids and the flow control solenoids allows for a pressurized fluid to activate at least one of the clutch actuators and synchronizer actuators in order to shift the transmission into a desired gear ratio.

A hydraulic control system for a dual clutch transmission includes a plurality of pressure and flow control devices in fluid communication with a plurality of clutch actuators and with a plurality of synchronizer actuators. The clutch actuators are operable to actuate a plurality of torque transmitting devices and the synchronizer actuators are operable to actuate a plurality of synchronizer assemblies. Selective activation of combinations of the pressure control solenoids and the flow control solenoids allows for a pressurized fluid to activate at least one of the clutch actuators and synchronizer actuators in order to shift the transmission into a desired gear ratio.

A hydraulic control system for a transmission includes a first source of pressurized hydraulic fluid for providing a first flow of hydraulic fluid, a second source of pressurized hydraulic fluid for providing a second flow of hydraulic fluid, and a torque converter control subsystem for controlling a torque converter and a torque converter clutch. The torque converter control subsystem includes a torque converter control valve and a solenoid. The solenoid is multiplexed to the torque converter control valve and the torque converter clutch. The torque converter control valve is operable to control a flow of hydraulic fluid to the torque converter and to other subsystems within the hydraulic control system.

A control system includes a pressure control solenoid and a flow control solenoid having an input in fluid communication with the pressure control solenoid. A piston adjusts a position of a shift fork and includes a first area in fluid communication with the pressure control solenoid and a second area in fluid communication with the flow control solenoid. A fork sensor senses a position of a shift fork. A flow determining module determines a fork velocity for the shift fork, adjusts the fork velocity to generate an adjusted fork velocity based on the position, and generates a flow command for the flow control solenoid based on the adjusted fork velocity. A pressure determining module generates a pressure command for the pressure control solenoid. The shift fork is at least one of moved from a sync position to an engaged position and from an engaged position to a neutral position.

Control system and method for shift fork position in dual clutch transmissions

A control system includes a pressure control solenoid and a flow control solenoid having an input in fluid communication with the pressure control solenoid. A piston adjusts a position of a shift fork and includes a first area in fluid communication with the pressure control solenoid and a second area in fluid communication with the flow control solenoid. A fork sensor senses a position of a shift fork. A slip sensing module estimates slip acceleration between an input shaft and a gear. A flow determining module generates a flow command for the flow control solenoid. A sync control module determines a slip acceleration profile including an estimated slip acceleration, adjusts the estimated slip acceleration based on the measured slip acceleration, and generates a pressure command for the pressure control solenoid based on the adjusted slip acceleration.

Control system and method for synchronization control in dual clutch transmissions

A hydraulic control system includes a source of pressurized hydraulic fluid for providing a pressurized hydraulic fluid, a main line circuit in fluid communication with the source of pressurized hydraulic fluid, a regulation valve in communication with the source of pressurized hydraulic fluid, the regulation valve moveable between a plurality of positions, and a lubrication valve in communication with the regulation valve, the lubrication valve moveable between a plurality of positions. A lubrication circuit and a cooling circuit are in communication with the lubrication valve. The regulation valve allows pressurized hydraulic fluid to communicate with the lubrication valve after the main line circuit is saturated, the lubrication valve allows fluid communication between the regulation valve and the lubrication circuit until the lubrication circuit is saturated, and the lubrication valve allows fluid communication between the regulation valve and the cooling circuit and the lubrication circuit after the lubrication circuit is saturated.
