In a voice-over-IP communications network, call data records include dynamically assigned IP signaling addresses such as IPv6 signaling addresses used in provisioning communications sessions. Those dynamically assigned IP signaling addresses are computed from customer site identification codes using a reversible algorithm. The algorithm can then be reversed to compute a customer site identification code from an IP signaling address contained in a call data record, allowing the communications network provider to perform quality monitoring and diagnostics based on call data records.

A method is provided for monitoring devices with changing IP addresses. SNMP trap is received from a device at a first IP address to notify that a connection is up, and a SNMP poll is transmitted to the device to obtain an identifier. Predetermined consecutive SNMP GET requests are transmitted to the device in intervals. Responsive to failing to receive from the device predetermined consecutive SNMP GET responses equal to the predetermined consecutive SNMP GET requests, it is determined that there is a connection failure or a device failure and checked whether the device is in a maintenance window. If not in maintenance window, a trouble ticket is generated. Responsive to the failure, there is a predetermined waiting period for another SNMP trap from the device with a second IP address and the same identifier notifying that a connection is back up, and no trouble ticket is generated.

Scalable and robust mechanism for remote IP device monitoring with changing IP address assignment

The present invention provides a method and system for automatically providing infrastructure maintenance for a customer in response to a customer form/report/ticket in a communications network that includes a core communications (voice and data communications) service and an Access Provider service. Typically, the system includes a Work-Flow Manager and a maintenance program scheduler. The Work-Flow Manager is arranged to trigger, for each customer form/report/ticket, each automatic software program/engine of a plurality of automatic software programs/engines in response to an associated milestone event for the customer form/report/ticket. The maintenance program scheduler is coupled to the Work-Flow Manager and is used for invoking at least one predetermined maintenance software program based upon predetermined criteria being met by the form/report/ticket. The method includes the steps of: generating a ticket/customer repair request regarding a problem; diagnosing the problem; testing to determine whether the problem has been fixed; generating clearance and analysis codes; notifying the customer that the system has repaired the problem; and closing out the ticket/repair request upon successful repair of the problem.

A restoration system is provided for enhancing the reliability of a telecommunications network such that particular traffic which is disrupted by, for example, a faulty link, may be quickly rerouted via an alternate route established 'on the fly'. In particular, each node and link forming the network is monitored, and in the event that such monitoring detects a faulty link or node then a central controller is notified. The controller is arranged to locate spare capacity and establish an alternate route, in which the continuity of the alternate route is confirmed before the disrupted traffic is transferred thereto.
