Cable connector assembly having improved shield members

A cable end connector assembly () includes a cable end connector () and a cable (). The cable end connector has an insulative housing (), a plurality of contacts () received in the housing, and a shield device (). The cable () comprises a plurality of wires () respectively connecting to the contacts of the cable end connector and a shielding braid () enclosing the wires. The shield device comprises a first shield portion () inserted into the housing, a second shielding portion () assembled to a rear end of the first shield portion, and a third shielding portion () assembled to a rear end of the second shielding portion, a rear portion () of the third shield portion clamping a part of the cable. The shielding braid is positioned between the second, and third shielding portions.

The audio plug has a mating portion ( ), a first retaining member ( ) extending from the mating portion and engaging with the first limiting member ( ) for preventing the audio plug from moving along the axis thereof, a rear portion ( ) opposite to the mating portion, and a second retaining member or rib ( ) formed in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the audio plug and engaging with the second limiting member ( ) for preventing the audio plug from turning around on the axis thereof.

Electrical connector assembly

An electrical connector (10) for use within an I/O card comprises an insulative elongated housing (12) defining a cavity (20) therein and a board (24) horizontally projecting within the cavity (20) for engagement with a protrusion portion of a cable connector. A shield (32) generally surrounds most portions of the periphery of the housing (12) with a portion of the shield (12) penetrating the housing (12) into the cavity (20) for electrically connecting to a shielding shell of the cable connector. A pair of latches (56) are received within two corresponding recesses (54) oppositely facing to each other by two sides of the cavity (20). The latch (56) further comprises a rearward projecting extension (66) having a step-like leg (68) downward extending adjacent to the end of the extension (66) for adjustable compliance with the different PC boards (72) which the I/O connector (10) is attached to and electrically engaged with.

Shielded electrical connector

A cable connector assembly (10) includes a cable connector kit (12) which comprises an elongated housing having a plurality of contacts (18) therein for engagement with a complementary I/O connector of an I/O card. A PC board (24) is positioned behind the cable connector kit (12) and electrically connected thereto via solder joints with contact tails of the connector kit (12). A cable unit (80) encloses a plurality of wires (82) for being soldered on the rear side of the PC board (24). A pair of covers (40) sandwich therebetween and enclose therein the connector kit (12) and PC board (24) with a coupling section of the connector kit (12) protruding out an front opening (51) of the covers (40). The cable unit (80) comprises an engagement device which can incorporate a hollow (99) defined by two covers (40) to form strain relief means to resist improper pulling force applied to the cable connector assembly (10). The covers (40) further more comprise recesses (52) to cooperate with the internal connector kit (12) for enhancing combined structure between the connector kit (12) and covers (40).
