A wireless local area network (WLAN) communication method and apparatus are provided. The WLAN communication method includes allowing a receiving station to receive a multi input multi output (MIMO) frame, allowing the receiving station to determine whether the MIMO frame is erroneous and whether the MIMO frame is destined for the receiving station, allowing the receiving station to generate a single input single output (SISO) acknowledgement (ACK) frame if the MIMO frame is not erroneous and is destined for the receiving station, and allowing the receiving station to transmit the SISO ACK frame to a sending station that has transmitted the MIMO frame.

Wireless LAN communication method and apparatus

Provided is a method of processing and transmitting transport stream packets and processing the transmitted transport stream packets. A time stamp is generated in a medium access control (MAC) layer based on time information managed by the MAC layer, and a data frame including the transport stream packets is retransmitted based on an algorithm different from that used for a general data frame when a transmission error occurs. Therefore, there is no need to transmit and receive additional synchronization packets in order to precisely transmit the transport stream packets between transmitting and receiving terminals, and it is possible to reduce performance deterioration caused by latency and jitter.

A method is provided for determining a transmission rate of a control response frame for acknowledging data receipt in a wireless local area network. The method includes obtaining transmission parameters of a transmitting station from a data transmission frame received from the transmitting station, searching a receiving station for transmission parameters which correspond to the transmission parameters of the transmitting station, determining the transmission rate of the control response frame according to transmission parameters of the receiving station if the transmission parameters corresponding to the transmission parameters of the transmitting station are found in the receiving station, and determining a maximum rate among a set of basic transmission rates to be the transmission rate of the control response frame if the transmission parameters corresponding to the transmission parameters of the transmitting station are not found in the receiving station.

A method and apparatus for reducing the power consumption of a wireless LAN device that operates in a wireless network are disclosed. The method for reducing the power consumption includes receiving a high throughput (HT) frame; judging whether the received HT frame is decodable; and if the received HT frame is not decodable, switching the wireless LAN device into a standby mode, and maintaining the device in the standby mode for a duration of the HT frame.

Provided are a method and apparatus which can reduce the possibility of collision with other frames when transmitting a broadcast/multicast frame in a wireless local area network (LAN) following a Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) rule, thereby ensuring reliable transmission. The wireless communication method for sending or receiving a predetermined frame through contention between an access point and one or more stations according to DCF is characterized in that the access point uses the shortest of interframe space (IFS) intervals for access to a wireless medium. Therefore, when wireless LAN STAs operate in a DCF mode, the possibility of collision during broadcast or multicast frame transmission can be reduced while adopting conventional CSMA/CA mechanism, thereby improving reliability in successful frame transmission.

A method and apparatus for guaranteeing fairness regarding access to a medium among a plurality of stations in a wireless local area network (WLAN) where a plurality of high throughput (HT) stations and a plurality of 802.11 legacy stations coexist are provided. In the WLAN, information that allows a plurality of hearing legacy stations and a plurality of hearing HT stations which receive a data frame having an HT format transmitted by a transmitting HT station to fairly contend for use of a medium is transmitted as a frame having a format that can be interpreted by all the legacy HT stations. Therefore, the legacy stations can contend for a medium under the same conditions as the HT stations.
