An object of the present invention is to provide a cucumber mosaic virus (CMV)-resistant solanaceous plant. The present invention provides a CMV-resistant solanaceous plant having a mutated eIF4E gene encoding an eIF4E protein nonfunctional for CMV. In addition, the present invention provides a method for producing a CMV-resistant plant, the method comprising mutating an eIF4E gene of a solanaceous plant into a mutated eIF4E gene encoding an eIF4E protein nonfunctional for CMV.

Virus-resistant plant and method for producing the same

Plants are created with desired traits by conveniently and rapidly inhibiting methylation of target DNA in plants, without using recombination technology. Scaffold RNA produced by transcription of target DNA is cleaved in an RNA-directed DNA methylation mechanism.

Method for suppressing methylation of target DNA in plant

The present invention is to provide a novel non-diffusing plant virus vector wherein virus vector infection and proliferation are possible only in a recombinant plant transformed with a gene necessary for viral proliferation, thereby enabling avoidance of unintended diffusion of a recombinant virus, a selective and specific expression system therefor, and a method of expression thereof which comprises combining a non-diffusing virus vector lacking a gene involved in intercellular movement of a cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) genome and a transgenic plant transformed with the lacked gene involved in intercellular movement for the non-diffusing virus vector to establish infection and proliferation selectively and specifically in the transgenic plant.

Non-diffusing plant virus vector

The present invention provides an anti-plant virus agent which exhibits preventative and therapeutic effects on plant virus diseases. The anti-plant virus agent of the present invention is characterized by containing at least one compound selected from the group consisting of ascorbic acid derivatives represented by Formula (I) (wherein, Rto Reach independently represents a hydrogen atom, &#x2014;SOH, &#x2014;POH, a glycosyl group, or &#x2014;COR, wherein Rrepresents an unsubstituted or substituted C1-30 alkyl group, or an unsubstituted or substituted C2-30 alkenyl group, with the proviso that Rto Rmay not all be hydrogen atoms at the same time), and salts thereof. 

Anti-plant-virus agent

A compound having inhibitory activity on the binding of a substance &#x3b1; to a PTGS suppressor protein, wherein the substance &#x3b1; has a property of inducing PTGS and a property of binding to the PTGS suppressor protein and shows a decrease in the property of inducing PTGS upon binding to the PTGS suppressor protein.

Antiviral agent

A novel plant virus vector and a method of gene expression into plants are provided, and the present invention relates to a plant virus vector characterized in that a part of the sequence of the 2b region of the RNA2 molecule of the Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) is deleted; the aforementioned plant virus vector characterized in that the region from the StuI site to the stop codon of the 2b ORF of pCY2, which is an infectious clone of CMV-Y RNA2, is deleted; and a method of gene expression in plants characterized in that a foreign gene is introduced so as to be stably expressed in a plant using the genetic recombinant. This vector is useful as a plant RNA vector for causing stable expression of foreign genes.
