An NHsupply amount controller reduces and adjusts a supply amount of NHto an SCR catalyst by an NHsupplier, when an exhaust gas flowing into an NOcatalyst has a rich air-fuel ratio and NOoccluded by the NOcatalyst is reduced to N. A reduction amount of the supply amount of the NHcontrolled by the NHsupply amount controller is set larger when s flow amount of the exhaust gas detected or estimated by an exhaust-gas flow amount detector is larger.

A method of controlling a system having an internal combustion engine, a filter in an exhaust passage, a reduction catalyst downstream of said filter capable of reducing nitrate oxide contained in the exhaust gas with reductant supplied thereto is provided. The method may include, in a first mode, combusting a first amount of particulate matter trapped in said filter and supplying a first amount of reductant to said reduction catalyst when an amount of particulate matter trapped in said filter is less than a predetermined trapping amount (&#x3b1;). The method may further include, in a second mode, combusting a second amount of particulate matter that is greater than said first amount of particulate matter and supplying a second amount of reductant to said reduction catalyst when an amount of particulate matter trapped in said filter is equal to or greater than said predetermined trapping amount (&#x3b1;).

Method and system using a reduction catalyst to reduce nitrate oxide

An exhaust-gas purification device disposition structure of a vehicle, comprises a fuel tank with a fuel supply port which is disposed so as to be open to an outside of a vehicle compartment, and a urea tank to accommodate urea water solution as deoxidizer to purify exhaust gas. The urea tank is disposed outside the vehicle compartment, and a pouring port of the urea tank is provided inside the vehicle compartment. Accordingly, the urea water solution can be surely prevented from entering into the vehicle compartment even in case of the breakage of the urea tank, and the mistake of supplying the wrong liquid into the wrong supply (pouring) port tank which may be made by confusing the ports can be avoided.
